For a number of months I've been customizing the first version of Iberian Total War which is based on Patch 1.2 and is largely stable (the second version based on patch 1.5 is very buggy).

During the process of customizing I encountered many CTds and have largely been able to find the root cause of the problem, the most difficult and persistent of which was a frequent but irregular occurring CTD during the campaign turn which had me extremely perplexed. I wondered whether the fact that the CTD occurred when the loading bar reached the slave symbol had any bearing on what was causing it and after checking every slave and mercenary unit found that it was caused by changing the title Warband Archer Dacian to Warband Archer Gauls but not changing the corresponding entry in the descr_rebel_factions file.

After this was corrected the game played just fine and I played a Roman campaign. However well into this Roman campaign I encountered a CTD which was fixed at a specific date and no matter how many times I started the CTD would always occur at 243 BC. I have now played 3 other factions but the result is the same, although the date for the CTD varies slightly to 238 and 239 bc.

My question is, as all these CTD's occur when the campaign loading bar reaches the Gauls symbol indicate a problem with recruitment of Gaul units or their technology tree, or was the last CTD when it reached the slave symbol just coincidental to the slave problem?.
