Default Faction Reveals Thread - The Sassanid Empire

“The Sassanids are the latest in a line of Persian empires stretching back almost 1,000 years.”

Sassanid vassals consolidated their power in Fars before seizing control of the Parthian Empire. Since then, their lean, centralised administration has revitalised and expanded its boundaries. Such prominence inevitably attracts opposition, however, and the Sassanids now find themselves in a delicate situation. Forces from without threaten their control of the Silk Road, while the Eastern Romans undermine them even in times of peace. Yet the Sassanids cannot be slowed by such things. As their claim to the throne is rooted in military prowess it is imperative that their recent conquests continue, lest control be wrested from Persian hands once more.

Beginning the campaign with a number of satrapies under its control, the Sassanid Empire enjoys an impressive recruitment base and level of income, and stands ready to expand. An educated people, the Sassanids understand well the link between cleanliness and health, and plan their capitals around the provision of sanitation.

Last year when they revealed Rome 2, it was like 2 week/ faction. Now it's almost daily. Guess they don't want to hype their game as much as before

Anyone notices that in the revealed screenshots, the lightning is not so "medieval-ly" dark as they said during the battle of Londinium? Honestly, these screenshots looks pretty much like Rome 2, just with different models.

It's nice to see them continuing with the "Seleucid treatment" of decentralization. I hate playing as fat giant empires, so it'll be fun to be able to expand when your vassals get uppity. Looks like they are Oman, Lakhmids, Ardhan and Media Atropatene, then I'm not as sure.

It's nice to see the semi-curved oblong shields associated with them, and the officer and standard bearer look great, the helmets too.

They have stated that the atmosphere such as the lightning will be different depending on where in the campaign world you are located.

Seems like Armenia will start under their sway aswell. That's good, gives me an early reason to declare war on them as the ERE.

So the lighter shaded map area implies vassal regions? That's very interesting. Looks like the dynasty has its core regions in southern Persia and Mesopotamia. I would imagine Parthians also being some sort of a vassal but I'm not sure.

This reminded me of an interesting study I recently read. It argued that Sasanid empire was far less centralized than normally thought and that north and northeast were highly autonomous.

You are fully aware that London and Baghdad are like in two completely different places in the world that not only have different climates but also different lengths of sun hours? I'm sure areas closer to the equator are warmer and have more sun compared to a place like London that's only warm due to the Atlantic Conveyor belt.

From the way it's looking they might be one of the easier factions to play but I could be wrong.

Hmmm, how do they fasten their helmets (those without cheekguards)? No protection for the neck?
Adding coifs would be very reasonable for these heavy infantry and historically correct:

Surely youre not suggesting that the equator has more sun than london? Half year round london should be sunnier than the equator.

I really disagree. Large factions provide an entirely different challenge imo. WRE in BO for example was the funniest and most difficult vanilla campaign I've ever done, despite their size. Also, their wiki article states that there are very centralized... Their announcement basically contradicts itself.

Bagdahad? Bagdahad didn't exist in the 4th century. Do you mean Ctesiphon, perhaps?

I agree it makes no sense to strip the sassanids of most of their land when the eastern and western roman empire are not. They have more land then the sassanids yet they do not have this "satrapies" nonsense.

I hope they make it easier in this game to make your client states apart of your faction without having to fight them, or at least make it where you have more control over them even though they are another faction like set the taxes or demand troops when in times of war, kind of like a feudal system or something close.

Actually I have noticed that Sassanid Empire looks very similar to Parthia in Emperor Edition, with almost the same number of satrapies, now called the puppet states. It is like that only Armenia and some other factions are added instead of others. But I think the campaign will be different rather then in EE just because of the hordes invasions and the activities of ERE and Hunnic Empire of Attila. Initial goal will be to keep the puppet states under control and to expend over the ERE and Arabian peninsula and later to capture the rest

Interesting, but I must say that the textures look pretty low quality. Their helmets look strange. At least the officer looks decent.
