Thread: Technical Support

  1. #21

    Default Re: Technical Support

    I tried the new version and I think the problem is that GEMFX thinks wow is dx9 for some reason. It generates a GEMFX9 file when it is used.
    The file read this:

    [16:02:14] Welcome - GEMFX is preparing for DirectX9 application
    [16:02:14] GEMFX successfully hooked onto 'Wow-64.exe'
    [16:02:27] Thank you for using GEMFX!
    [16:02:27] GEMFX successfully un-hooked from 'Wow-64.exe'

    ////////Discuss Solution//////////

    WoW is dx9 as far as I know (at least vanilla was)?! If not, just delete the d3d9.dll to force the dxgi.dll (dx11) to be loaded instead. That log would be more important then.

    (By the way, get 10 to 20 posts somewhere first so you can edit this post here otherwise this thread will be flooded with questions and answers and will not be helpful for anyone) Sorry

    I suppose there is no GEMFX.log file? Is there any difference when deleting the d3d9.dll from the GEMFX installation? Have you installed all latest Windows Updates?

    thanks for your quick answer. deleting d3d9.dll doesnt fix the problem. have all latest updates for windows. you are right. there is no gemfx.log. whats the reason? i've followed every single step as mentioned in your description. would be great to get it run because the screenshots look amazing.

    ////////Discuss Solution//////////

    Do you use default settings?
    It is very important that windows is up to date (this is not mentioned in the steps).
    What is mentioned in the steps is to install c++ vcredists for x86 too if you have 64bit OS.
    (also the note to you, please post somewhere in this forum until you get between 10 and 20 posts I believe so you can edit your posts and we can discuss everything in one post and not flood this thread)

    Bug Description::GEM inst working, sometimes it will work, but only on directX 9, and without UI bipass.

    Log File:: I could not find the files you wanted, i found one called GEMFX9:

    Only the GEMFX.log file for dx11 would help here (if you get one). If you do not get any, it means that either the wrong compatibility (flag or 64bit flag) is set in the configurator or there is a problem with the .Net Framework or c++ vcredists.
    Do you have the optional windows 8.1 update KB3000850 installed?

    Edit: I dont have any of the log files. I checked my updates, and i have that KB3000850. My configurator settings: http://i.imgur.com/mPH0eBD.jpg

    I dont know how to uninstall Net Framework or C++, that may be the problem. Trying to download and install the lastest updates for them just gives me a message that my system is up to date.

    ////////Discuss Solution#2//////////

    Try running the configurator as administrator as discussed with Cochrane before setting compatibility mode (you might also delete the d3d9.dll if it still gets loaded).

    Where do my screenshots now get placed after using F10??

    ////////Discuss Solution//////////

    Unless you changed it, prt-scr is still the screenshot button of GEMFX (or the steam screenshot button).
    The screenshots will be placed where the .dll files are placed.

    Changes in the configurator could not be saved. Therefore, compatibility mode flag could not be set.
    Running the configurator as administrator solved the problem.

    I have just found your older R2-TW-GEMv61-HD-eFX.exe working great "awesome graphics" - really.
    I just cant start Rome2 together with GEM 1.0.6 it crashes before loading screen - everytime, doesnt matter what I had tried, unticked, ticked, reinstalled. I have newest c++ 2013 for both 86x , 64x, I have some older version of c++ too, Netframework 4.5.2, newest Catalyst drivers for r9 200x series 14.12, all games work without any issue, I have all windows 8.1 updates, I reinstalled, deleted GemFX few times, deleted re-downloaded like is in last tutorial 1-2 pages back, I think I didnt make any mistakes in installation of gemfx. Why is 6.1 working with any problems and I can't run GemFX together with Rome2. Gemfxconfigurator.exe is working but i cant start Rome2 with it. Now iam happy I have R2-TW-GEMv61-HD-eFX. Couldn't be any issue with gemfxconfigurator.exe and what for issue?
    Thanks

    ////////Solution//////////

    Try running it with compatibility mode.

    Ahhhhh my mistake I didnt save configurator settings + after I didnt close Gemfxconfigurator.exe
    I just ticked settings and let configurator running in the backround. I think before I tried save and close configurator and game was still crashing but now is working. That reply above helped as well.
    Graphic look beautiful, going to little test.
    Thank you very much

    Default Re: Technical Support

    Maybe not really a bug, but...

    ----------------------------------------

    Application:: Medieval 2: Total War

    GEMFX Version:: M2:TW GEMFX Version 2.2

    Bug Description:: Loading screens and Menus are a little sluggish, but bearable and not really a problem.
    The problem lies with the campaign map: the FPS drops to basically 0 when I try to move the map around. Strangely, zooming in and out are fine, as well as clicking anything or moving units. It's just moving the camera around on the campaign map. Makes it impossible to play.
    The battles are fine and don't seem to have any FPS hit.

    System Specs::
    - ASUS Notebook G74Sx Series
    - Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M 2GB (Geforce Game Ready Driver version 347.09, which is the latest update)
    - Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
    - 8.00 GB RAM
    - 64 Bit, Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

    Log File:: No log for this sort of thing.

    ------------------------------

    Is my PC just too weak for this sort of thing?
    It's a few years old (like 3 now) but when I bought it, it was high end.
    And M2:TW came out almost a decade ago.
    The fact that I can play battles just fine with no apparent FPS drop seems to suggest that the problem is not with the power of the PC.

    A solution would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get this to work so I can use it for my new AAR.

    ////////Discuss Solution//////////

    It is a known issue that might be related to the map rendering of M2:TW.
    I will update M2:TW soon to also use GEMFX, when do you want to start the new AAR?
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    BF:

    Thank you for your quick response.
    No worries about the AAR, I will simply continue with it and update to your mod if it begins to work for me.

    More importantly, in the future I can test to see if your update(s) fix the issue?
    I've now seen the problem spoken and discussed about before in your old, defunct threads, but doesn't seem to be resolved.
    I'd love to help you get to the bottom of this.

    Is there a way to turn the effects off in-game, such as when on the campaign map?
    Shift-F12/F9? I've tried those, didn't do anything.

    I have just another problem, By-Pass is not working I ticked both UI and AA + Compatibility mode, because I can start Rome only when ticked compatibility mode.
    When By-Pass ticked, I can see only HUD and blackscreen instead of enviroments and warriors in custom battles. But With Fxaa 2x and unticked By pass everything works.
    Thanks

    Guys, I achieved a preset that I like a lot but the problem is that there is too much whitewashing of the image when I zoom out and see the battlefield from atop. From zoomed in perspective is pretty good but once i zoom out it is very whitened and kills my eyes. This of course happens on a normal dry sunny day in summer. I am just wondering which of the settings may help with that. How does the ambient lighting work with the treshold values?

    As I said early for Lucifer that this 1.0.7 doesn't work correctly. While GEMFX is activated and you are in game. Suddenly game lose picture screen and game + voice still working. This game work only when GEMFX 1.0.7 is disabled.

    I know this has been asked (and answered before) - Win 8.1, new GEM not working properly: forcing shader model 3 (5 greyed out)

    Which cc++ update and net framework update parts do I need to install again? There are so many different options and I have limited understanding of what they do!

    Many thanks

    - this was posted by AlQamar in another thread and helped me to get it to work. If You're running 64 bit version of WIN 8.1., install both, just as AlQamar wrote in his post and You should be fine.
