Icon5 GPU or power issue????...or is it simply windows?

    Hi all

Been having some epic RTW2 sessions everything running smoothly and beautifully.

started experiencing a few battle crashes, nothing major bar a video RAM bleed from what i could tell.

Then all of a sudden major BSOD in RTW2 when in battle.

have done quite alot of tests etc and the only thing i can find is in the windows event viewer is this
    1.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention.
Scenario : Video memory resources are over-utilized and there is thrashing happening as a result. Reducing number of running programs and open windows may help resolve this condition.

i also then thought it might just be RTW2 so i tried a few other less intense (GPUwise) games, like magic the gathering, fifa13 etc and all BSOD.
also after the reboot a small critical window flashes in my start bar; something about a kernell power 4 error or something of the like, which i cant find on the event viewer and only flashes briefly, needless to say im lax on repeating the error just to see the correct message

now the weirdest thing is that movies, adobe programs like photoshop and a whole host of other programs work with no issues whatsoever.... however if i boot up a game immediately it BSODS.

i didnt want to panic and start deleting and reinstalling programs or rip out and buy new components etc before i can be clear on the problem.

i have always received top notch advice and help on these threads and petition the great minds to please show me the light once more

    many thanks

The trouble is it's the only way we will know for sure.

Before you do, have done a malware scan including rootkits?

The Blue Screen Viewer in that link may work better. Some have posted a pic taken by their phone of the screen when it pops up.

Here is how to disable the restart so you can get a good look at the screen info. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/window...-windows-7.htm

    It's Windows 7? Probably a driver issue.

You can disable DWM during gaming. Either change to Windows Basic Theme (no Aero), or go to Administrative Tools -> Services: find "Desktop Windows Manager" and stop it.

right, after a very protracted breathing session and holding my eyes tight shut, i did what you suggested IR and ran another deep scan just to be sure.
i found a whole lot of nasty trojans and keyloggers in my windows files which i exceuted immediately.
did a standard reboot and dived into RTW2 for about a four hour session...

    NO BSOD!!!!

im thinking they were casuing some kind of resource conflict with windows , and also thanks AqD i did that and my performance shot up as well.

just relieved it was windows and nothing else `.

many thanks gents for the assistance and advice.

++ cookies for you both and if someone can close this thread as solved
    many thanks again gents
