Default What happend to the Quatar 2022 investigation?

Last week I watched an interview with UEFA president Michel Platini in which he said that he would be moving forward on having the 2022 world cup being staged in winter.

Since when is it a given that the 2022 world cup will take place in Quatar???? What happend to the scandlas of this year? The revelations showing mass abuse of labourers and the disgusting import of slave workers? And of course the revealed corruption scandal?

Was the investigation that supposedly took place nothing but a farce that we are now supposed to forget?

Irony: Why should Qatar, bringer of democracy, not be allowed to organise a WC?

Football is corrupt from the bottom to the top. Is it Blatter being a jerk or me lending my season ticket to a friend when i can't go.

I dont care if Quatar host the world cup or not. Any country can host the world cup in my opinion.

But the country that hosts it must apply standards that welcome foreigners and do not discriminate or abuse anyone!

Seems to be the curse of our time. From the Olympic comitee, to FIFA to others... every single sports organisations seems to be managed by corrupted, greedy scumbags.

I just really want to see the power of these organisations returned to people who actualy love the sport.

Let's clear one thing up. Soccer, or football, or whatever the hell you want to call it is a sport. That's all it is. I don't care where it's hosted. It can be hosted in Iran for all I care. Don't get all principled about the government about the host country. Not with an organization like that. Let's be clear about that from the start. But a place of 120 degree base temperature? Probably not the best idea if you don't want the players collapsing if the air conditioning accidentally breaks. Just saying.

    Fifa clears Qatar of corruption

A Fifa report clears Qatar of corruption in the 2022 World Cup bidding process but is critical of the English FA.

Only FIFA left to be cleared then...

Fifa investigated whether or not Fifa took bribes and found no wrong doing.

There's a ton of money and a lot more than football behind it. FIFA is just taking their tax free part, Western governments and business will get the rest. A disgusting moment for sport.
The Olympic Committee is just as corrupted anyways.

I just assumed the world cup scandal concerning Qatar was hidden and buried underneath a pile of money, like all of Qatar's problems. Its still there, unaddressed, but hidden from view, albeit reeking slightly of oil.

It hardly helps that FIFA is plenty corrupt to begin with. A non-profit really shouldn't be bringing in billions of dollars per year...

Agreed. But there is also the issue about the massive mortality rate amonst workers forced to endure conditions not too unlike slavery or indentured service. Why should people have to die to provide entertainment?

Or at least, why can't their dying be part of the entertainment?

And placed any blame towards their biggest critics, the English FA, who unlike Russia and Qatar actually cooperated with the investigation. Funny that.

Even the actual investigator for the report has come out and criticised FIFA.

Michael Garcia, the former attorney for the southern district of New York hired as part of a drive to revive Fifa’s image, complained that a 42-page summary of his 430-page report contained “numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations of the facts”.

Well remember what happened in Brazil, FIFA strongarmed the Brazilian government into letting people drink alcohol in stadiums, which was previously illegal.

You find a way for International Law to strip every one of their construction permits, be my guest. Until then, they're just construction projects going forward haphazardly full blast. And you can't prove nothing more. Right now the biggest weapon in your arsenal is boycotting. If you really think your country and enough others to make a point is going to do that, I laugh in your face.

The Qatari govenment admits that over 1,000 migrant workers have died so far in order to bring the World Cup to their country.

I for one will boycott anything to do with these bloody games, but I doubt that the English FA will.Iit would be more ethical for Qatar to host the Hunger Games.

    Same.
I'm a huge fan of football and world cups in general, I understand that ultimately corruption is everywhere and nothing is perfect, but this whole Qatar thing is way beyond anything I can tolerate.
The standard practice for foreign workers in the area is to withdraw their passport as soon as they enter the country, so they can't leave and are forced into slavery. The fact that not only the West knows this and doesn't do anything, but is actually pushing to have the event there shows how morally low we have sunk.

So you guys who say you would boycott this, how would you do so? I mean, none of this really affects me. I have very little interest in sports, so missing a game of the world cup is nothing to me.
