we know romans did it. WHy not to portray it visually? i have seen some mods with the "rotation" button, but i think to watch it happen in real would be much better. We had a rotation system back in empire total war, why cannot we have it in rome 2?

We don't have the ability to mod it in.

To be honest, we don' t have any proofs (Or at least i never found them) about romans rotating their ranks as shown in the HBO series "Rome". Yet we know that they used to relief first line maniples with second line ones, as described by Livy...a tactic that can be used in Rome 2 too and that is pretty usefull

I doubt you'd be able to create a petition with enough names to get CA to even respond, because honestly, it's a very small thing that would require a lot of work.

it is a minor, cool thing, which would add a big sense of immersion, and I don't think it would need so much work. You simply have to add in rome 2 a feature they already made about 10 years ago for empire total war.

Why add another highly improbable fantasy feature? There are no proofs for a rotation system in ancient sources and from reenactment experience and theories of close combat behaviour such a system would be suicidal, creating a real muddle near the enemy.

I don't think you should say that something is easy, especially when you don't know how it works. Here in this forum what people do is that they change things, they use existing assets, trigger events, events, timer, etc and they change the value here and there to make it better. What you are asking is actually adding a new function, which touches directly into the code, where nobody can. Let's take an easy to understand example: music mod, in rome 1 there is a trigger when a unit starts to move and the music would change, modders can just use the trigger and change the music into what they want. In rome 2 however the developers did not add the trigger, so it is impossible to change the music when units move like in Rome 1. For you, you will absolutely think it is a simple thing, just like the rotation your are asking, which is also impossible. Another reason is the battle AI, modder cannot change the AI behavior, otherwise we wouldnt cry for patches, all we can do is change the value so units are harder to die, run faster or slower, etc.

Also, just because it was in empire doesnt mean you can drag and drop it into rome 2. A piece of function doesnt just act alone on its own, it needs connection to other assets of the game. And those connections change with different engine. Rome 2 is using a different engine than empire. So basically to implement it they have to do it almost from scratch. So although it may visually be the same, but how you do it is very differently, like to get to a destination you can go different ways, if the old way is blocked you have to go on a new path.

Because of the complication, and attila is almost here, and rome 2 is at the end of its life cycle, I doubt CA will lift their eyebrowns even if you manage to get the entire forum to physically stand in front of their place asking for this. So sad for you, and maybe for all of us, this isnt gonna happen.
