I thought it would be nice to open up a thread for new lore that we are getting from the World of Ice and Fire.
The North
- House Mandelry apparently originated from a castle called Dunstonbury in the Reach. The closest name/provicne is Dunnsbury of House Dunn.
- Barrowton is apparently the North's second largest town and it was built on the supposed barrow of the first High King of the First Men.
- The Starks Valyrian Steel sword Ice was forged on the last day of Valyria before the doom happened. How it got into the hands of the Starks is unknown.
- There is a potential theory to this. There is a very "badass" Stark King, Theon Stark who actually invaded (more like raided) Essos so Ice might have been acquired then.
The Riverlands
- House Blackwood may have originated from the North, from the Wolfswoods area but were exiled for some unexplained reason. This would explain their First Men and Old God worshiping heritage pretty well.
- Houses that Once Ruled the Riverlands as Kings: Blackwood, Bracken, Hoare (extinct), Mudd (extinct in Westeros), Fisher (extinct), Duranndon (extinct), Justman (extinct), Teague (extinct)
- House Tully has never ruled as a King
The Iron Islands
- There may be some credence to Ironborn being able to sail through the Riverlands via the Blue Fork/Green Fork of the Trident to reach the other side of Westeros.
- The base of the Hightower is made of the same material (black marble) as the Seastone chair.
The Vale
- Vale Andal Houses (at least originally) - Arryn, Grafton, Corbray
- Vale First Men Houses (at least originally): Royce, Hunter, Sunderland, Shett, Redfort
The Westerlands
- Nothing yet
The Crownlands
- House Velaryon used to be hugely powerful. It was said that they could muster 10,000 men and 100 ships during the Dance. If that's true, that pretty much throws off all of our number estimates (although some of those men may be sellswords).
The Reach
- The base of the Hightower is made of the same material (black marble) as the Seastone chair.
- Oldtown may have been have originated as a small Valyrian trading outpost/port before it became a full city.
- While Oldtown has fallen to a siege several times before, the Hightower itself on Battle Island has never fallen to an enemy.
- Every major House in the Reach should have at least some kind of descendant from Garth Greenhand. I'll write out their connection later.
The Stormlands
- Storm's End was old, very old, even possibly older than the First Men
Dorne
- Nothing yet
House Targaryen
There's a lot of new information about them, too much for me to put down in one sitting.
- We have the names of all the Dragons who fought in the Dance and a list of all the battles in as well as the participants
