    Default Need New Headset

Hello guys, I am in need of help. My loyal headset of 3 years, a creative fatilty one recently broke. I am looking to replace them with a more high quality set that would be suitable for both gaming and listening to al types of music. Price range is flexible, as long as it's not >200 euro i would consider it.

Don't ask. Bring a few CDs, go to a store and actually listen.

Sennheiser has all best headphones ranged from $100 to $3000 and I have 4 of them, but I don't know about their headsets. They and Audio-technica are makers of professional headphones, and their products are far better than the usual crap such as those from Sony even under the same price. Try them at stores and you'll see.

Don't waste money on wireless unless you prepare to pay triple $$ for the same quality. And don't buy anything with surround or bass effects, or any artificial sound effects in general, because these affects can be made better in computer software or independent sound card, and having those effects is usually an indication of garbage-grade.

Grab the KRK KNS 8400s and a Mod Mic. Better Audio and Mic quality than any headset you can buy. The Mod mic just attaches to the headphones and viola headset.

grab the KRK KNS 6400s they are the same as the 8400s but use regular foam pads instead of memory foam.

Head-fi has pretty much the definitive thread on gaming headphones, with a good emphasis on music, as well.

This is what I own now and I have no plans on buying anything else: http://europe.beyerdynamic.com/shop/dt-990-pro.html

I got the DT 990 for $150 which is about the lowest they ever go when on sale. It's an open headphone design which is really what you want for gaming. For music, it is a bit more of a personal preference. Personally, I will never go back to closed, at all. Certainly not for gaming. Although an open design will leak sound so others around you will be able to hear. Not good on a bus, etc.

German made and all parts can be replaced easily and cheaply. Although I never see the need to do so as these are designed and built very well. The headband band is metal and will never break. My previous Sennheisers did start to fall apart so I will never own anything that does not have a metal headband.

I've owned $500 headphones in the past but my current price range, based on experience, is under $200. There simply isn't enough return for money spent until you get into the $750+ price range.

If you want to spend more you can go with this which is a little better: http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Over-Ear-M...words=k712+pro

I've owned this Zalman mic for years. Always worked very well for me in games and google voice. Although I wouldn't do any critical sound recording or youtube videos with it.

Bass on the KRK is good, depends on sound card and the EQ settings someone uses. Its not to much and not too little. They are Studio headphones and well worth the price. Listening to Metal / Hard Rock / Classical / Symphony etc I have had no issues with bass no distortion etc. As for the Mod Mic its head and shoulders above the Mics included with today's headsets.

Reviews on the KRKs considering frederik has pretty much every high end headset you can buy Ill take his opinion since thats all he does for work.

Apologies for hijacking your thread. But I was curious which route I should go as well.

I ordered a pair of G4ME ONE headsets but I am concerned about open-back headset, since I have only ever used closed. I am willing to go with the G4ME Zero's, 360's, or 363D's. I am unsure what would be best for me and if I NEED a sound card/amp. I don't play many shooters anymore besides BF4 on occasion. I'm looking for more immersion, so what should I go with?

Open headset/headphone would make you feel much better but also annoy others around you.

You don't need a sound card or headphone amp for games. They're quite expensive and only useful with certain types of headphones (usable amp starts at $300 and double, triple, ..). I don't think they even sell any gaming-grade headsets requiring better input source than average audio chips.
