Ooc - not at all, besides it was very close too
As he landed he took for granted that the distraction would buy him a second to redress his stance but the prince's quick response effectively gained ground, the ruse had been useless. As Quellon prepared to pounce, right shoulder leading, body narrowly presented to form the least target the knight came at him with his full bodyweight. His rapier was knocked to the side and the Valesman was inside his range, his deflected arm was pushed out and away to his right and his body followed taking the brunt of the charge into his chest and face. Back he went. And down. "Bastard!" He yelled, more at himself than his opponent. His rapier was flung out at arm's length and he lay splayed open in the dirt, he raised his left forearm to his cover his face, he expected the boot.

A grin formed on Zachary's face as he knocked the ironborn into the dirt. He pointed the tip of his blade at his victim's neck, and said, "you yield, I guess. Your barbarian ways are no match for a true knight." As he said it, he felt his bruised ribs acting up. It had been closer than he liked to admit. He took a moment to catch his breath, and then looked for his brother. Aurane had yielded to that Bulwer. It didn't surprise Zachary, but he had at least expected Aurane to do some damage. The knight still looked as fresh as ever. Avoid that one, the Prince made a mental note. His next target would be Damon Tarth. The Stormlander looked quite tired already, and Zachary couldn't take much more of a beating.

    For further info, surviving combatants:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. Lord Leo Reyne
    2. Ser Donnel Lefford
    3. Lord Rickon Blackwood
    4. Otho Bracken
    5. Lord Quellon "Broadbrim" Greyjoy
    6. Manfred Lohtston
    7. Lord Maekar Targaryen
    8. Aurane Arryn
    9. Zachary Arryn
    10. Damon Tarth
    11. Ser Osgrey
    12. Ser Thom Bulwer
    13. Argus Baelish
    14. Aerion Bightflame
    15. Knight of the Red Moon
    16. Ser Jon of Ashford (NPC)

Of the original 16, 9 remain. Until this 2v1 is resolved I assume Round 1 is still underway and therefore I'm holding off on picking another combatant until the 2 defeated parties in that 3-way brawl are known.

Edit: I see one of the 2v1s is actually me. How lowly and dishonourable of you, Baelish.

Donnel kept up the relentless assault on Lothson after the punch had landed, following it up with a swift kick to the midsection, forcing his opponent to the ground. There he lay, deflecting the first strike in a desperate swing as he fought for breath. The second strike knocked the weapon from Lothson's hand.

Though Lothson had been put onto the ground, Donnel had no chance to breath or take stock of his situation, as a Baelish had come upon him just as Lothson was being beaten to the ground: the lowly coward had elected to attack someone otherwise engaged.

"Can't fight a man fairly, Baelish?!" roared Donnel as he parried Baelish's opening blow, back-stepping furiously in an effort to gain even footing with the attacker, "Striking a man from behind while his attention is elsewhere! A woman's tactic from a spineless, insignificant House!"

Baelish had the upper hand for now, entirely from his cowardly assault on Donnel's back, but Donnel had defeated Lothson quickly and without exerting himself too greatly, and seemed to be holding his own, even if squarely on the defensive. If momentum against the cowardly brat could be achieved, the tide might turn...

The Last Red Lion fought a hard and frantic battle against the Knight of Ashford, no one gaining any ground. Leo was looking for an opening, anything, that could turn the stalemate. His armor was becoming heavier with every passing moment, though his opponent showed the same tired symptoms. Leo made a dash with his shield. The Knight of Ashford was forced back, leaving his left leg open. With one swing the steel bit into the flesh at the vulnerable joint above the greave. A shallow wound, but enough to draw blood and make the knight fall to his knees. With a kick Leo had him on the ground. It was over. Ser Jon of Ashford raised his hands in surrender with a sword at his throat.

Leo looked around. Who would he fight next? The closest to him was Ser Thom Bulwer. The Reachman's house words were known to Lord Reyne. "Death Before Disgrace", those were boastful words. Few men could hold to such a creed, Leo had found, least of all himself. Would this knight be any different?

OOC: Are you so surprised haha?

IC: "Don't be upset because your Lordship doesn't have guards in pretty cloaks to save your arse in here." Argus said as his blade was parried by Donnel "This is what a real fight on the front line is like, and in here the high born die just as quick as anyone once you poke a few holes in them." Taking advantage of his opponent's still unstable position Argus swung for Donnel's leg in an attempt to trip him.

OOC: It's just battle banter and he's from a lordly family which in Argus's point of view is enough.

"I fought in the Riverlands you little prick!" retorted Donnel as he jumped backwards yet again to avoid a swipe: Argus fought offensively and Donnel was not a comfortable defensive fighter, "While your lot hid behind their mountains we gutted the fishfolk from the Twins to Harrenhal! While you cowered we were on the streets dealing with the mountains of dead and the riots! You think you know what real battle is?!"

Donnel threw himself bodily at the attacker, crashing into him and sending both to the floor. As they got back up, Donnel at least had a moment to gain footing as they stared each other down.

Argus would pay for his cowardice. This was not a field of battle, this was a knightly tournament.

I still need match ups for the remaining bouts. I currently have Reyne vs Bulwer and Arryn vs Tarth.

    Spoiler for Remaining hp

    Lefford: 5
    Mystery Knight: 10
    Maekar: 7
    Blackwood: ???

Plus whoever wins from the other fights.

[OOC: In the spirit of Donnel being a cruel and vengeful person, Argus is getting a beating for his insolence. Purely RP, please no one roll anything for this. ]

The two paused briefly before resuming their fight. Donnel's swing started momentarily earlier, forcing Argus to sidestep to Donnel's left quickly at the expense of completing his own attack, but this gave Donnel the momentum he craved.

From the swing, Donnel once more lashed out with his left fist, striking Argus sloppily in the chest, but still connecting the blow, forcing the coward back one more step. A left-swinging uppercut caught Argus' chestplate as he reeled back from the punch, leaving a scratch right up the front of the armour and knicking the helmet on the way up.

Before Argus could regain his composure, a kick to the shin stole his footing and dropped him to one knee, where another fist smashed into his helmet, knocking his vision blurry. Argus was able to stop himself falling over, and struggled back to his feet while Donnel paced around him, breathing deeply and angrily.

"Attack me from behind like a COWARD." shouted Donnel, finishing the final, angry word with a downward blow square onto Argus' back, forcing the dizzy knight back to his knees. Walking around to be infront of Argus, Donnel spoke again.

"Talk down to me like some arrogant PRICK." he seethed, quietly and angrily, again ending on the last charged word with a full-body kick to Argus' head, shooting the man onto his back and sending his helmet flying off to reveal a bloodied, dazed face. Donnel knelt next to Argus, using his left arm to grip the lip of Argus' breastplate, pulling him up a little off the mud.

"REAP WHAT YOU SOW!" he shouted, landing another gauntleted fist square onto Argus' unprotected nose, sending blood flying and slamming the knight back onto the muddy floor to gasps from the watching crowd. Two Goldcloaks took a few steps forwards to intervene as Donnel stood up and wiped his own face, which had splatters of blood that may or may not be all his. He turned to the Goldcloaks.

"Take the whelp off." he said dismissively, pointing with his sword to the limp figure in the mud before him.

Donnel turned back to the field, observing the few remaining fighters continuing their bouts. Many had fallen by now, leaving only a handful on the field of battle. None were nearby, giving Donnel the chance to draw some breath: he was exhausted, in pain from several of Argus' blows that had landed, and his concentration was off after the beating he'd given Argus out of spite. Defeating these remaining foes may not be within his reach.

Behind him, the two Goldcloaks hauled Argus off the field to be tended to by a waiting medic. Of all those who left the field defeated, Argus was certainly the worst for ware: no other contender had intentionally beat their opponents into unconsciousness.

[OOC: I'm not sure who Lefford is closest to on the field, he'll go for that contender.]

OOC: Haha wow, calm down Lefford. I approve greatly.

IC: Argus Baelish is carried bleeding and unconscious from the field. Inside the medic tent his children Mya and Lyn are waiting. Lyn has tears streaming down his face at the sight of badly beaten father as Argus is laid down on the table by the guards. Mya Baelish though just stares at her father expressionless. Whilst Lyn is escorted out of the tent the medics get to work on Argus. Mya stands and walks over to the front entry of the tent, she peals back the opening flap slightly and continues to watch the melee. She noticed the sigil of House Lefford the man bearing it was now fighting another, her father's blood now stained his gauntlets. She took note of his sigil "Donnel of House Lefford" she thought whilst taking a mental note of his appearance "One day I will kill that man" she thought calmly whilst her father's grunts of pain wailed in the background.

Donnel summoned up the strength to launch into an attack against Blackwood, who was completely clean and appeared fresh.

"Circling the edge like a craven!" said Donnel as steel met steel, followed up by a kick to Blackwood's midsection to force him back, "Cunning, in an underhanded low way, but the strategy of a woman!"

A lashing swing of the sword caught Blackwood's helm, ripping it off and causing the man to spit blood. The next attack was sidestepped, followed by Blackwood's sword catching Donnel behind the knee and sending him to the floor.

An attempt at finishing Donnel was pre-empted with a swipe at Blackwood's feet, catching him and tripping him. Both scrambled back to their feet, and stared each other down briefly. The fresher Blackwood lunged first, with Donnel twirling past the blow and bringing his blade down to strike the committed Blackwood in the back, eliciting a grunt of pain and almost taking him off his feet again.

Having swapped sides, the two faced once more. Donnel went for the kill, lunging an easily parried blow with the intent of knocking him over with a shoulder barge after the parry, but Blackwood quickly sidestepped the barge and brought his sword down hard on Donnel's back, knocking the exhausted fighter clean into the mud. As Donnel rolled over to get up, he was met with the tip of Blackwood's sword as his throat.

    "I yield." panted Donnel, defeated.

[OOC: I really don't think it's fair that Blackwood got to go through the whole Round 1 without rolling a single thing. A 20hp fighter taking on a 5hp fighter, really? I understand that the "pick whoever you want" causes some problems, but that shouldn't let someone, by luck of the draw, stroll straight through Round 1 and face almost-dead Round 2 fighters with full hp.]

ooc Yeah the pick who you want caused that problem however I would argue that it fits with the style of a melee better. From my experience in the Mount and Blade Melee arena it is much less fair then this. If I had been paying more attention to this thread when it started however I wouldn't have had Blackwood sit out round one and from a narritive perspective I hop Blackwood making it to the last four will get some attention from the other lords. After all he is just 16 and a retaliative unknown in the game right now.

Leford moved quickly causing Blackwood to tripped fall sprawling in the mud. He felt the mans sword slice down his back and a small trickle of blood began to flow down his back. Blackwood rolled quickly back to his feet regaining control of the fight he began to parry with the man who clearly out matched him. Rickon was trying to get a blow through when he noticed the strain of Leffords face. Blackwood lunged taking the older man by surprise and breaking through his guard. Bringing his word down hard in one quick finishing blow.

Lefford was defeated but Rickon realized how lucky he was to have made it this far. The man had clearly outmatched him. The last four fighters would be jut as good if Blackwood was to win he would have to play smart. Picking up his shield he turns to face his next opponent. He spies Ser Damon of Tarth and moves to confront him.

The Mystery Knight's blade came crashing down but was parried by Lord Maekar. The two swung at each other before The Mystery Knight performed a successful tackle bringing Maekar and the Knight to the ground. The two slugged at each other in the mud briefly before Lord Maekar was forced to yield to the knight. Before leaving however the knight whispered to Lord Maekar "Meet me at my tent after this battle if you wish to find out who I am, and bring only those you can trust your grace."

The Knight did not have time to rest before yet another foe advanced towards him. The knight was tired, this would likely be his last battle. Never the less he braced himself for the oncoming attacker.
