Other interceptions just like this were also reported. Russia's just conducting major drills.

This does beg the question though... WTF are the russians playing at? It's not like we have some sort of issue with them. Are they just antagonizing every western country they can? What do they expect to gain by this?
I'm quite sure they didn't fly over Portuguese air space, but perhaps you could post more details. All other interceptions which I read about today were of Russian aircraft approaching national airspace, not of Russian aircraft violating it.

They know better than to do an act of war. They flew through the international waters that we have responsibility over in the Atlantic. Non announced flights over that area demand military response on our part as they are a risk for commercial aviation. They were then escorted out of the area and then the british and the norwegian took over. They seem to be going out of their way to act like total dicks...

So, no actual violations of any laws or borders, and to make it worse, it happened in Portugal, and as we've seen in this thread we're only concerned with things going on in Sweden anyway.

Yes, just jump into a thread and call people stupid and paranoid. Thank you so much for contributing to the discussion!

Putin is not afraid of rustling Western jimmies. I'm not saying a Russian invasion is imminent, but based off of Russia's antagonistic attitude towards the West lately, a little sub mission to poke at Swedish response times seems very possible

Portugal is the lead nation for the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission (Baltic States don't have Air Forces, so NATO nations take turns patrolling their airspace for them). So it probably took place around the Baltic States.

No, this specific incident occurred someplace around the Atlantic.

The Swedish Armed Forces now confirm intrusion by a mini-submarine in an on-going press conference. National adherence cannot be established.

New evidence now involve sonar observations and submarine tracks on the bottom of the ocean.

It's good to know that there was at least a submarine.

Is it so surprising that the most stealthy military vehicle of today (aside from stealth aircraft) is used to probe countries inside their national space? In time of peace, its their first mission objective, lets not kid ourselves.
Like spies, everyone does it (everyone who has the money to); sometime they get caught, sometimes they dont; when they do, they become political tools for political means. Today the mean would be, to increase awareness on the russian bloc, to justify military spending and close the knot with like minded nations.

With the Ukraine situation, everyone knows when a russian soldier farts.
The only problem I see with this, is that when there will be real total war threat, we will not know because we are over-reacting to everything.
