Yet another thread on "Shogun 2 not launching"

Well, I've just gotten Shogun 2 and I simply can't launch it on Steam. My OS is Win 7 64bits. I tried all the solutions suggested in the sticky:

2. Delete or rename your preferences script. This can be found by typing %appdata% in any navigation bar then hitting enter. Navigate to The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\scripts\ and delete or rename the file preferences.script.txt

3. Verify the integrity of your game cache. Right click on Shogun 2 and click Properties. Then navigate to the local files tab and click "Verify integrity of game cache...". This ensures your version of Shogun 2 is exactly the same working version that appears on the server.

4. Delete your Steam ClientRegistry.blob file. This can be found in your Steam installation folder (for me it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam)

However, when I tried

1. Run the Visual C++ redist setup again. This can be found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\redist\vcredist_x86.exe, or your equivalent directory (varies according to OS).

I got this error:

Error 1935 installing assembly 'Microsoft VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken=1fc8b3b9a1e8e3b".processorArchitecture="x86".

I'm clueless as what to do now.

Try running Windows Update manually installing all software options?

Try running under Administrator is you have not done so.

That fix didn't solve the problem Irishron :/ nor did it running the vcreditstx86.exe in adm mode solve it.

What is showing up in the Event logs concerning Windows drivers, Steam, antivirus, firewall, shogun2, google, etc. related?

Hello, when I run Windows update and search for potential updates I get an error code WindowsUpdate_80080005" "WindowsUpdate_dt000".

Kapersky is not known for false-positives but there is a chance it's blocking it.

Blocking the vc2005 installation you mean? Any possible reason?

None that I can think of. What other total War games do you have and can you start a campaign in each?

On Steam, I have ETW, Napoleon and Rome2. I have no problems with all of them.

It's not directx or .Net or vc libraries, then. Vc2005 is used in Medieval2.

When you say you can't run it does it mean when you click the exe it doesn't run at all or it got stuck like a long time in the splash/legal screen ?

Did you try to launch it from desktop shortcut or via Steam browser itself ?

Have you tried it via Rome 2 launcher ? (run rome 2 launcher, in the mod manager select Shogun 2 instead).

It gets stuck at "installing flashsecurity.exe" or "performing installation setup", Lesta. I launch it via the Steam browser. Yes, I tried launching through the rome 2 launcher.

Hey irishron, it takes a long time for me to reply because I'm testing all the possibilities before bothering you. Oh, and I have medieval 2, but not on Steam.

You're not far from reformatting and reinstalling Windows.

This is no joke. The only other thing I know to cause this is a pirated copy of Windows. No, I'm not accusing you of having one but your Windows install acts like one.

try deleting some of your cached items in the \The Creative Assembly\ folders, which is in your 'hidden' (as in invisible) files area; open a folder and under 'organize', drill down to 'folder and search options' and under the second tab, click 'show hidden files'. Go to: 'C:\Users\(your drive name)\Appdata\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\' folder. There are a few folders with files in there that have preferences cached that have been problematic in the past. In particular the 'preferences.script' might need to be removed so the game can rebuild it's preferences. Radious at one time was recommending people delete the cache files in the 'army etups' folder and 'battle preferences' folders.

Do you have any mods in your data folder at all? I was having a similar problem a few weeks ago, and overlooked a mod file that was out of date and so it kept my game 'hanging' in a broken routine. Once i removed that, it started working again fine.
