Default GSTW Faction - Rito Clans

    Rito Clans

    Main Color: Dark Green
    Religion: Lesser Deity Worship
    Culture: Civilized
Rival Factions: Empire of Bellum, Cobble Kingdom
Cordial Factions: New Hyrule, Anouki Natives

The Rito are a collection of twelve clans united under the mysterious Sky Dragon Valoo. All twelve clans have their respective leaders, while those leaders answer to the royal family of Komali. The Rito were not always united, and were little more than primitive tribes fighting amongst themselves until the great Valoo appeared before them and ended their civil wars. Until the recent arrival of New Hyrule and the Ocean Blin armadas, the Rito Clans were the dominant force of the Great Sea. The Rito Clans control a relatively large chain of islands radiating from the heart of their power, Dragon Roost Island. In recent times they have become extremely more militant in preparation for future Ocean Blin invasions.

    Strengths, Weaknesses, and Abilities:
    - The Rito Clans have a large selection of air units, giving them unmatched speed and positioning in any battle. Many Land units can participate in Naval Battles.
    - All flying units are able to cross bodies of water.
    - Many units are very lightly armored to allow for flight, many units are extremely vulnerable to ranged weaponry.
    - The Rito are lacking in Navy power, with very few dedicated ships.

    Flightless

The lowest caste of Rito society, there are many of their kind unable to fly for unexplained reasons. Together they form the Flightless Clan, serving as the bulk of the Rito workforce and low level soldiers.

    Roost Guard

These armored warriors of the Flightless Clan patrol and guard the various islands under the charge of the Rito. They wear more armor than most Rito soldiers, unconcerned about the need to fly.

    Halgrad Lancers

These skilled warriors of the Halgrad Clan soar into battle with anti cavalry spears. They are extremely swift both in the air and on the ground, making them one of the fastest spear units stacked against those of other armies.

    Kam Ano Bolters

Members of the Kam Ano Clan, these soldiers fly into battle with a Crossbow harnessed to their back. They are able to attack enemies from a distance while airborne, making them exceptionally terrifying because of their speed. The Bolters are much less accurate than most ranged units however, likely because of the difficulty aiming while in flight. Kam Ano Bolters are able to participate in Naval Battles.

    Halgrad Fencers

These extremely swift warriors glide in and out of fights, dancing around enemies and dodging with ease. Their speed makes them exceptional against lightly armored enemies, however they can be easily overpowered by heavily armored enemies.

    Kam Ano Bombers

The Kam Ano Bombers bring their explosive firepower from their native island to battle. They are able to soar over enemy forces, dropping their payloads from above. Kam Ano Bombers are able to participate in Naval Battles.

    Avron Shield Boxers

These exotic soldiers of the Avron Clan fight with their signature duel shields. Extremely defensive fighters, the Avron Shield Boxers sacrifice speed for the unmatched ability to parry and counter enemy assaults in melee.

    Sky Knights of Idalon

Heavily armored knights of the lone isle of Idalon, these knights bring much needed heavy armor to the fronlines of Rito engagements. Though they are able to fly, their armor significantly slows down their movement speed.

    Avron Gliders

Avron Gliders are outfitted with artificial extensions of their wings, allowing them to soar significantly faster and farther distances than the average Rito. Avron Gliders are able to swoop down at fast speeds, plowing through enemy ranks and knocking enemy soldiers out of formation.

    Skylords

These powerful Rito have been blessed with flaming magic from the sky dragon Valoo. Though they are able to unleash white firebolts at enemy forces from a distance, Skylords are skilled with a blade and can engage the enemy in melee as well.

    Halsail

These small boats often serve as recreational craft for Flightless Rito. During wartime they escort larger Rito ships from battlefield to battlefield. The small crew on board the Halsail can fire bolts at enemy forces, though they do little against most larger navies.

    Battle Barge

These large ships were built to ship large loads of cargo between the islands of the Rito Clan. During Wartime their decks are loaded with scores of Flightless Bolters, gunning down the crew of enemy ships.

    Aqua Roost

The large Aqua Roost platforms dot the Great Sea, serving as pit stops and resting grounds for Rito traveling long distances between islands. These self sufficient islands provide food, supplies, and weaponry for moving armies and navies. During war time they can be manned by scores of Rito armed with bolters.

    Command Roost

An Aqua Roost converted to leadership and battle duty, the Command Roost is able to direct entire Rito navies. Though durable because of its size, the Command Roost cannot hold against a fleet of ships in melee on its own. The Command Roost is armed with four Ballista on its hull and is capable of attacking enemy fleets from an artillery range.

    Prince Komali

The son of King Komali, the prince was born a Flightless and has become the target of mockery and ridicule by many who believe him unfit for royalty. With the recent death of his grandmother he has become further introverted and secluded from his people. His only connection to the outside world has been his family's servant Medli.

    Medli

A servant of the royal Komali family, Meldi has recently devoted much of her time aiding the prince and helping him come out of his depression. Medli has a fondness for music and often plays the harp in her spare time. Though she is able to fly she also spends much of her time associating with the Flightless Rito.

    Quill

A Rito spy and agent, Quill often operates under the guise of a mail man as he infiltrates the various Rito Clans. It is his job to assure that there is no rebellion amongst the twelve Clans and report back to the King and Valoo. Recently Quill has discovered a possible insurrection of the Kam Ano Clan, all coincidentally timed at the arrival of Ocean Blin armadas.

    Rinna

A member of the Kam Ano Clan, Rinna is a skilled warrior with both the spear and Bolter. She often serves as emissary and diplomat of her clan, shifting to general during times of war. She has recently found herself at odds with her Clan, whom are planning on a major rebellion against King Komali and Valoo.

Yeah, Valoo would make a very good addition, but this faction is looking great already.

I love them. The variety and different approach to their roster is great. Not only are they unlike any faction in HTW or revealed in GS:TW with their focus on flight, but those boat ideas are really cool. Good job on converting those Rito platforms from the mini games (I assume at least) into badass CIC vessels for war.
Other than that, I like the color variety to represent their multitude of clans + casteless. They're tropical birds and that will certainly help to make them feel this way.
Their flag looks really nice. In design and just whatever texture you used looks super clothy.
Avron Shield Boxers are incredible. I hope they're just immune to arrows to make up for their comrades' weakness because they look amazing. They bring me back to WoW when tanks joked about how weapons only took armor away from a hand better used for a second shield.

I am too a little sad without Valoo. I guess I'm on the band wagon for a cool dragon, but that wont stop me from being happy. This faction looks great and I cannot wait to play the rito because they look neato.

dude I have no idea when this is coming out, but shut and take my money because leading medli into battle with an army of flying, magic shooting, knights is awesome.

Kudos to incorporating all of the Pearls into the faction's clans. At first I thought they all just had Din's Pearl's symbol, but now I see they have all three.

So they're going to be lightly armored for the most part. Will they be skirmisher/swarm orientated in battles?

Also are other spirit-type beings like the two cyclone brothers and fairy island queen going to have appearances? Or ghost ships!

I don't imagine swarms will be a thing, but fast moving skirmishers could work.

The Fairy Queen is already the faction leader for the Fairies.

I THINK ghost ships will be an NPC faction.

I have some questions for Neph about the unit roster.
How are these units supposed to work. And how are they meant to be used in battle. Like wise what other roles can they fulfill?

also interesting that u chose not to just focus on Din's symbol on their medallions, I see Nayru's and Farore's there as well.....

I'm still holding out for Valoo to appear later in the Historia Missions. After all, the Rito shouldn't just insta-win with dragons on their side, now should they

I agree. I like it and I think it has to do with the fact that the Rito are the only Wind Waker specific faction to show up as new in GS:TW. New Hyrule isn't really a thing until after Wind Waker. The Ocean Blins seem to combine Ganon's Blins, but also Malladus or whatever his name is from Phantom hourglass. The Ocean Koroks are the same factions as the HTW Kokiri, and as such already have their spiritual stones and Farore mythology without needing the ocean-centric pearls. The Rito already exist in the Great Sea, and it makes sense that they kind of encompass what's left of the Wind Waker's objects because they're the only ones who can really use them.

Still think those Shield Boxers are the most ridiculously amazing things ever though!

I admit, I have my concerns about the Rito.

Maybe this is just me and my opinion is invalidated outright because I'm not using 'em right, but I can't seem to get flying units to work right. The Deku Kingdom Zirros, for example, spend a lot of time flitting about and 'reloading' or 'Firing missiles' when they're just floating in place and getting charged by infantry or slowly ground down by ranged units. When they do work, they're amazing, but I always have a hard time working with them. Anybody else? Thoughts?

Well.... I have used them for 2 things, But Maybe I could use them for 6 things.
    ______________________________________
    1)
I normally have the Zirros Come up behind my infantry that are in Melee. And then have them shoot over them to hit the masses of enemy infantry, who are also in melee.
    2)
I use my Zirros to kill tough hard to kill targets. Like Darknuts, Large Gohma, Battle Crabs, Bigocto Battle platforms, Etc.
    __________________________________________
I have not tested #3 & #4 out. It's Been a while sense I've use the Zirros. And I never got to use the Zirros Much, do to them being high Tier units.

    3)
If the Zirros are a fast enough unit. I could use them to whip out artillery and not just the troops manning the artillery.

    4)
If the Zirros can shoot up in to the air and not just straight out or down. Then I can use them to shoot at Defenders on Walls.

    5) Just like #4. But as a Defender to my Settlement instead of attacking it. I imagine they would have better range Sitting on a wall. pelting my Enemy's below as they charge and try to take the walls.

    6) I could use them to destroy Battering Rams and Siege towers.

    Edit:
    @ Cielo the Pachirisu
Have you tried out any other Flying unit in HTW? Like the ones the Twili use?
Or the ones Ikona use? There maybe other flying units. But I can't thing of any.

Oh yeah, I uh...figured all those tactics out, hehe. Except the one about the melee guys holding them off; I generally don't mind doing that, it's just that, y'know, Deku Srubs + Friendly Fire (Bombs)...

I have. I guess the reason I asked, childish in hindsight though it may be, is that my favorite units by far on this roster are the Kam Ano Bombers right off the bat, and I was unsure if they would have the same issues as Zirros would.

    Thank you for answering, though!

The Rito are one of my favorite races of the Zelda Series. But I have never played Wind Waker or its sequels. I've only see people play them.
