    Icon5 Replacing Parthia with Alexander's Persia in vanilla RTW.

    As the title says, I had a project 2 years ago, that the rookie me still hasn't completed. Because I gave up. On the project and this site by extension. Even though I had been offered a position in a modding team if I was successful. But this time, I am here to stay.

    The problem? Pretty simple from the first look. I had managed to replace almost completely vanilla's RTW Parthia with ALX Persia, save for 3-4 units (Persian Greek Mercenary Phalanx, Phrygian Infantry, Syrian Cavalry and the Scythed Chariots - everything fine expept the unit card showed a grey Peasant). But I could live without those.

    Long story short, I was getting a CTD in every Custom or Campaign Battle whenever I attacked a settlement. The CTD was about some models missing (buildings more specific). The models weren't in the mod. Ok.....? But after seeing that they wasn't on vanilla either, I got puzzled. I made a new "mod" about vanilla (basically copying everything from it). I had no problem during sieges. Then I added a persian unit from Alexander. Specifically "Kardakes". The result? Yep! CTD.

    There must be more than a 50% chance I am making a mistake here. But, judging from the fact that Alexander was kind of a let-down and seemed rushed in its making, the problem may be lying elsewhere.

    I know everyone is largely absorbed into RTW2, but every kind of support on this matter would be appreciated a lot. If you prefer, see it as a riddle.

    hello, what exactly does the error message say?

    i ported the kardakes unit from ALEX into RTW modding only export_descr and descr_units_battle. i got them working perfectly. here they are fighting britons in a custom battle:

    First of all, thank you vyrille for replying.

    Now, I decided to make a custom battle on Cillician Hills with Julii vs Carthage (unit-a-unit). The result (one of the many CTDs, I couldn't of cource post them all but you get the idea):




    Here we are with the models_building issue again. So it seems it happens to not just Persia/Parthia.

    Next, Custom Battle in a map with no buildings, like Sahara Desert, and no problem. I am wondering if I f'ed up.

    i may have a slight hint of what may have gone wrong, but i first have to know what the error message says whenever you play anything with a building in it?

    Oh, it says many things because there are a lot of messages/windows like the one I posted that pop-up everytime. For example, if I lay a siege to a town with a wooden palisade, it always shows CTDs starting from the palisade's CAS files (ex. data/models_building/palisade_gate.CAS or something like that) and saying similar things like the example above "filename does not exist".

    Do you have some sort of an idea? Should I remake the Data file of the mod more carefully?

    Again, I appreciate your concern.

    Ok so is your only goal here is to basically create a new faction (Persia) in place of Parthia in vanilla RTW?

    Are you trying to create new cities and buildings or simply replace units? If you are just making a new Persia faction with the skins/models from Alex this should have absolutely nothing to do with building models given that you edited the proper parts of the proper files.

    Did you possibly delete the building .cas files (somehow?) or maybe mess something up in export_descr_buildings when assigning the new units to their recruitment? Remember that in this file forgetting something as simple as a comma (,) can cause the game to crash.

    When you run the game are you using an -show_err command that will display the source of the problem after the crash? http://rtw.heavengames.com/rtw/mods/...ne/index.shtml make sure you use this and post the exact text that pops up after crash and I could probably help you out a bit more.

    hello again! sorry i was gone for a while. RL stuff and all. my take is that:

    1. There were errors in any of the descr_building text files, that's why your errors come up with "missing files". The text files point to where your data is, so if you've moved the data into another folder or renamed them, the game may not find them when it refers to the address given in your text files.
    2. Another thing that comes to mind is maybe you've added/replaced a faction name (ex. "parthia" to "persia" or vice versa) internally. meaning all the text files referring to "parthia" are now "persia" for example. that way the game cannot find the "persia" files if you've done it incorrectly.

    have you modified any of the other text files not related to the unit, perhaps?
