FOTS-No ship smoke?

I've been playing FOTS, and I couldn't hep but notice the fact that the ships, with their coal-fired engines and steel smokestacks neglect to spew coal smoke. I noticed in the teaser that had interviews with the devs that the ships there had coal smoke. My unit graphics are on medium since my craptop is rather feeble, and I tried using high graphics. Is there a particular way to get coal smoke to come from smokestacks, since it harms the immersion for me to see a ship running at full speed with no smoke coming out. I mean, it looks like there's a huge horde of hamsters running inside the paddlewheel to make it run.

Turn your Particle Effects into High; in Medium even Rocket Trails aren't looking good.

I did that, but nothing happened. DO I need to turn on anti-aitalising/any other graphics? Both unit graphics and particle effects are on high. Does it owe to my wimpy graphics card?
