Default Feedback on & a tip or 2 for players of: Carthage. (& more)

    Hey DeI fellows

So playing as Carthage for several unfinished campaigns (usually put in about 50 turns before stopping to mod in my own tweaks to certain things) I have some feedback to provide our devs so they may better this faction, since it has been hinted factions will be polished most likely for the delayed 1.0 release, if not then the 1.1 release.

    1. Diversification of Carthaginian generals, at least where equipment is concerned. Below are some screenshots for comparison--I discovered Punic rebel generals have more diversity and aesthetic appeal than Carthage itself

    *---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------IMO--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
Carthage should have a large standing repertoire of variants for generals as they were a colonial, mercantile empire so they were exposed to different cultures, tangoed with beasts to make trophies of such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards (Africa/Mauretania) and wolves and bears (Iberia), trinkets/metals to adorn themselves with etc. The current model for Carthaginian generals is very uniform for an empire without a historically standardized, uniform military. They appear overly greek at the moment instead of having a blend of greek/phoenician/latin in combination with a more barbaric flare i.e. wolveshead and lionshead pelts/helmets, as they were purported to have (which was mostly due to their use of mercenaries, but even so). ***At the very least, you shouldn't see such obvious clone variants as seen in the last two carthage screen shots. HANNIBAL WAS CLONED AHHH.*** (I don't think it's accurate to see a syracusan general with a lionshead pelt while there are none for carthage... I mean... lions are from Africa right? So Carthage would have much easier access compared to sicilians.............)

    2. More MERCENARY prioritization aka more buffs to encourage mercenary use.
-Re-purpose some features like military traditions to encourage the fielding of mercenaries; instead of a generic defense and armour bonus for a tradition titled "mercenary garrison", how about a -10% upkeep for mercenaries?
-Consider including luck_ponte's (I believe that is the right user) work, or at least some aspects of his mod, which re-purposes/re-adds the allied/mercenary barracks for carthage--it further encourages mercenary use.

fin feedback, now, a tip. (may post more feedback later but have to leave for class shortly.)

Personally I prefer the hoplon shield for my late carthaginian units, at least the late hoplites obviously. Currently DeI alters the shield from the hoplon to the... rotella? The oval shaped one; bit rusty with shield names. I disliked this though perhaps it does suggest how historically Carthage started to adapt to a more Roman military standard etc etc, but PERSONALLY I love the hoplon and prefer it.
SO--for any Carthage players that wish to keep and utilize beautiful hoplon shields for their late units, load this mod above DeI in your manager.
***A warning--I can't confirm as I haven't specifically looked into it, but this may override other shields besides the hoplon. (but all the units are still sexy)***

I think all generals should get an "overhaul" so they look more unique and special - not just Carthagians. It's also annoying that if you own CiG/Hatg, those awesome new general-models don't get used in main campaign!

And it cannot be used. Any DLC content, unless added to the GC by CA, cannot be used in the GC. The only exception will be if the said DLC is free for all.

Speaking of Carthage, in my campaign, I noticed the AI only has 14 units in their -Carthage- garrison while my Syracuse has 18? Is this a bug, or just poor management by the AI? The campaign is about 100 turns in.
Shogun 2, no thanks I will stick with Kingdoms SS.

    Hey Dei Devs

I just pulled up some of your variant meshes for carthage generals and see that there is variety, however this variety is not shown in game for the main carthage faction, as I have attested in my OP... is it possible for some variants to not be showing up, or be only utilized by a faction's rebels?
