Thread: Octavian Bio

    CA Developer Icon Octavian Bio

    Hi Guys,

Just sharing with you the 1st of 3 character biographies, the first being Octavian:

Caesar’s death cast Rome into a state of turmoil, but his keen Patrician mind had already considered the legacy he would leave. In his will, he named his great-nephew Gaius Octavian as his adopted son, and thus sole heir to Caesar’s assets.

In Octavian he had divined the soul of a shrewd statesman, and had he lived to see the aftermath of his own death, Caesar would not have been disappointed with his choice of successor. Octavian moved quickly to secure political stability by forming the Second Triumvirate with Marc Antony and Lepidus. The three-way dictatorship’s first act was to pursue Caesar’s principle assassins, Brutus and Cassius, and it was the combined forces of Marc Antony and Octavian who crushed the tyrannicides’ army at Philippi.

With the lands of Rome divided uneasily between them, it wasn’t long before the Triumvirate came to blows. Octavian dealt with both in turn, proving himself a master tactician in both statecraft and war. After Lepidus was driven into exile and Marc Antony took his own life in the court of Cleopatra after his disastrous defeat at Actium, Octavian was free to take control of the senate. From here, he built the framework that would transform Rome from a Republic into an Empire, and he its first Emperor.

Will you guide Octavian to the same glorious destiny, or halt his advance and claim Rome as your own?

But unfortunately he died at a very young age so will you lead A N other to his\her glorious destiny?

Rome is in those hands for a short while!

Something I'm curious on - are the general deaths for main characters handled the same way in this campaign as they were in HaTG/CiG? Basically, main characters are unkillable until the faction is destroyed.

6 "CA" threads in one week about the same thing (emperor edition). Maybe a little too much ?
It is better to create one thread and to upload it with new informations IMHO.

Didn't Augustus die around age 70? But if you're talking about game terms (1Tpy), I think most mini-campaigns have their own separate TPY, like HatG was around 12 turns if I remember correctly and CiG was even more.

I recommend the book Augustus: The Life of Rome's First Emperor by Anthony Everitt.

Most biographies will say the same thing because there is only so much written, however this one is an easy read.

The question is, will this character matter in the campaign ? will we see him, hear him or notice him ? where will he be ?
Will he life long enough ?

Better off getting Augustus by Adrian Goldsworthy. The Everitt book is kind of simplistic, the Goldsworthy one gives you a more complete picture while still flowing very well.

have you people been so keen to find something to complain about that you ignore the other campaign packs? Imperator campaign won't be 1 turn per year.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Have you had your daily dose of fear yet? craziii

no physical expansion if that's what you're asking, its all DLC's and stuff. they've been doing that for a few years (and I'm quite excited for patch 15, lots of awesome changes and the Imperator campaign looks pretty fun)

Meh. CA should at the very least consider to visit Wikipedia before writing biography summary.

Octavius fought Mark Anthony a first time before the second triumvirate was formated. So much for

She just share. It might be the ingame bio. I'm really curious about the trait and tech system in this expansion. Thre were some interesting developments in the previous one ! I think I played more CiG than the grand campaign.

I have a vague recollection of some Emperor Augustus but in this case I am referring to the rather lame effort by CA to create a character that you may care about while at the same time the main campaign has a collection of characterless nobodies that die at the drop of a hat.

Hey this was not a personal attack on Joey. It is probably not her job to do history research. So not her fault if there is such glaring errors like this one or the statement that macedonian pikemen came to replace thureos wearer after alexander's reign (while in truth the thureos was introduced 50 years after his death).

But I find it particulary shocking to have such a simple thing wrong. And the whole purpose of a mini-campaign is precisely to have all the details corrects. Otherwise you should meet your own "Augustus" in the main campaign.
