Thread: Harad a horde faction?

    Default Harad a horde faction?

The Orc factions of Mordor, Orcs of Gundabad, Orcs of the Misty Mountains, Dunland (MOS), and Isengard are definitely to be played with Horde tactics, this is common knowledge. The evil human factions however, are expected not to use such tactics as they have dependable, well-balanced rosters.

In truth I believe this only to be true of Rhun (I don't Balchoth spam ). I've tried out Harad a couple times on both MOS and Vanilla, and I have to tell you they feel like a southern Mordor. I need to resort to swarming Gondor with cheap units while my BG comes to the rescue.

So my question is, is Harad supposed to be considered a horde faction like those mentioned above (Mumakil being Harad's "trolls")? Or is it more like an evil version of Dale: some crappy starting units with a trump card, but after barracks event they get some dependable units to match superior opponent?

I was given the impression that Harad were nomadic and never stayed in one place, so basically a horde.

I think they are uique, since they have a lot of crappy soldiers, but later there are some cool units and also you have very good cavalry...

Yeah. They're not a zerg-rush "horde" faction, but they are a nomadic faction. Their basic units are fairly weak, but they have powerful specialist units, including cavalry that's superior to Gondor's. Mordor and the Orc factions are the same way, besides Isengard which focuses on expensive-but-good troops. Their basic units are cheap and expendable, but their late-game units (Heavy Goblins, Uruks, Trolls) really make up for it. Any faction can be played as a "horde" faction, really. Besides the Elves.

Is this what you mean by "horde tactics"? In M2TW "horde" means that the faction does not die when it owns no settlements, like Mongols and Timurids in vanilla, and Mordor in vanilla TATW.

Yes, as I'm sure many people on this forum use "horde" to describe the playstyle of the Orc factions in TATW But I can see why the two different meanings can be confused, is this why the thread was moved to submods?

Perhaps. At first glance it struck me as a "do we want a submod to give Harad the horde ability?" question. Maybe a moderator thought the same thing.

Well just goes to show they didn't read the OP, or if they did they misread it

This was my first assumption, as it's a misleading title ^

But this is why it was moved ^
