Thread: How to reduce routing units casualties

Default How to reduce routing units casualties

Historically, an average field battle would see 5-10% casualties on both sides, until one sides routed, causing it's casualties to mount up to 30-40%. In RTW, the routing army normally mounts up to 60-80%. My question is, how do I reduce this number in the EDU to something more historically accurate? What stats should I change?

Anyone? No ideas? Is it possible to script routing units to run faster? Historically, routing infantry would drop their weapons and armour so that they could run faster.

I've looked into this before and it seems to be in the skeleton of the unit, that determines the run speed.

Fiddling with morale (+mental state) , armour and shield numbers in the EDU (not defence skill or attack though) will change how long before routing/what affects morale much or little (ie elephant charge/fire arrows) the defence parameters will reduce their losses if raised. as would increasing hitpoints (although sometimes you can have difficultly with hitpoints and mounted units.) fiddling with these figures may help you achieve the loss % you want.

Morale would only make the unit rout faster not run from combat faster, this requires more than just EDU editing alone.

Thanks for the replies, after much testing, I found the only stat that works is the lethality stat. If you decrease the lethality stat and then increase the attack stat to compensate, it does reduce routing unit's casualties. Hitpoints also work, but it's harder to rebalance units after changing this stat.

    Good to hear that
