I'm going to rescind my previous choice. I don't want to play France, I'd far rather take Hansa so that we have more people trading. I'd much rather see France die a horrible death and be chunked between England, Brittany, Spain, Burgundy and potentially the Italian powers if they can get there fast enough.
I'll play Hansa instead.
Castile and England are slightly buffed and Austria become number one nation in Europe

EDIT: I just role over thread and found that new godlike Austria isn't picked yet! Ynen, Musty and rest of you who haven't confrimed your picks yet; hurry up and seize opportunity.

Its still pretty meh.
Apart from that, you should know by now that musty and I each have their own standards when picking a nation. Musty never plays OP nations just cause they're OP. I stopped playing nations that are horrible stuck between other players.

Once you survive the first 10 years you're set, you'll just replace the Ottomans.
France is only OP if you have cowardly neighbours.
This game however it seems there is no France and I like it. Just got to stomp Burgundy enough so they don't just take their place instead.
I'll be playing
That's gone now. Paradox realised how stupidly overpowered that was. Ottomans just get +20% manpower recovery now. Still a good idea, but nowhere near what it was.
They do indeed. Many of them are better than the Ottomans, though they do miss the excellent 33% core discount the Ottomans get. They also get "Establish the Theme System" which is another +25% manpower bonus. Depending on which way you go, being Orthodox instead of Sunni also has its merits. They're also in a better tech group and get a bunch of extra points events (which give more points than they take). The only problem is you spend the first so many years simply becoming what the Ottomans are to start with.
