Game no lionger works (I suspect steam update)
Ok so I got it on steam and I installed SPQR even before starting it.
It all was fine ... and now it no longer works ... when I start it the splash screen opens and then CTD with no error.
THe RTW exe shows modified date 6.8, so the steam update mustaed it up somehow ...
Any tips? Reinstall is a drastic last resort...

I had the same problem, if you check the integrity of the game files it will allow you to start RTW but it will be vanillaOriginally Posted by Saspio

You may need to reinstall SPQR

Thanks for the tip. Installing SPQR mod fixed it. All save games are intact. Was trying to avoid complete RTW install...

yea that is the problem o with steam .
Try to disable automatic update in it .
Had always the same problems when an upgrade came with RTW II

I have Rome Total War Gold edition with the BI expansion. It is a clean install. The preference file is set to false for first time play. I can do custom battles with no problem. Here's the issue; The game doesn't crash per say but when I hit start Imperial Campaign and pick the faction then hit the start campaign arrow icon it just goes back to the options for Imperial, Custom, etc.. What could be the issue or what did I not do? I have a steam version.

Best way to get this working on a Steam version is to use a cracked exe of CD versions (there are many cracked exe's for RTW out there it was a popular game of its time).
So basicly what you do is that you make a copy of RTW folder and just copy over the cracked exe into that folder + SPQR. Now how legal that is I have no idea.
