    If you already have the steam version of the game you can just log on to multiplayer as usual. If you have a retail copy then you can use the CD key that came with it to redeem a steam version. Follow the link above for more information.

    Seems to have done a lot more than simply switching servers. Many of the core files have been changed, I'm sure to have seen many new files that RTW didn't have before. I'm so happy that the Alex.exe wasn't even touched, my XC campaign is still alive in it's former state. Apparently, mods seem to work, but not consistently. I've even read of people complaining of the AI being even more stupid (although I guess it's easy to blame the horrible AI on a new patch that probably didn't change it, must be psychological)

    Is this why there is a 1.4 GB patch being downloaded for RTW right now? cuz thats kinda alarming...
    Any Veterans of the Afghanistan/Iraq wars join my group. Im trying to get a Veterans group started on here.

    Yeh it would be the 1.4 GB patch. I've heard about it affecting other files, not really sure why it reaches beyond MP in that way.

    Man on man, I feel for you, irishron. The SHTF now with RTW1 and a Steam patch.

    So that's where the AI problems with ladders come from. Why would the MP change affect the SP so much, that it manages to completely destroy the ai even further? Good thing I have a Steam and a reatail version, exactly for things like that.

    We need as many people to check their vanilla and mod games after this Steam patch to document issues, or else these will not get fixed. The goal was allegedly to fix multiplayer only, but I have no idea why all of these other errors are happening. The fact that the patch is so large makes me suspect it's more than a MP issue, right?

    I agree, there seems to be more to it than just MP changes. What've noticed so far:

    -AI attackers only carry ladders to the wall and then just stand there often one of the 5 ladders gets carried to block the other 4.
    -AI attackers stop their siege tower right in front of the walls an leve it there, with the unit not bracing against archer fire.
    -AI Defenders run back and forth from the town centre before my units have even reached the wall, usually having tired themselfes out to at least "tired" status.

    There's a report of very low FPS now after the Steam update. If you run FRAPS in order to check how well your system works, then report back what you see with this Steam patch versus what your normal FPS are.

    EDIT:
    Several people can't update or can't get their RTW1 purchases recognized due to bundled packages with other CA products.

    EDIT2:
    Send a spy into a settlement. Besiege it and the spies open the gates. All well and good. Then the AI foolishly sallies their cavalry into death regardless of if it's a wise move or not. As that can be the commander, it then results in an easy win due to low morale of the defenders.

    EDIT3:
    There are even stranger reports of defensive armies coming out to fight outside the city walls. Archers who refuse to fire from the city walls even when the enemy is in range. The Battle AI being generally more aggressive in a suicidal way. The Defending AI armies running around in circles wearing themselves out.

    Could this be a worse patch? It's almost as if it wasn't beta tested whatsoever but unleashed in the most amateurish way possible. A 1 gigabyte patch solely for multiplayer change doesn't add up.
