Simply install the mods like people without steam, and download the Kingdoms Launcher App to enable them in steam version of the Kingdoms launcher.

There's been a big update on Steam for MTW2 today that has apparently broken a lot of mods. I myself haven't tried it yet, as having to download a 10gb patch so I can play online, a feature I don't use, on 8- kb/s internet is a bit of a joke.

bada**7 is correct...apparently they are removing the launcher and now all of the "mods" (crusades, americas, etc.) will now be listed as DLC content.....people are raging about this....my modded game is broken but it seems some can play their modded M2TW using the old method....read the thread "ummmm what's the update about" on here...and yes, once again, hope you multiplayer onliners are happy !!!

To help save some reading if you are having trouble getting TATW to work try this:

    1. Locate your TATW folder, the path should look something like "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age_3"
    2. Open the batch file "Third Age".bat with Notepad
    3. Change this line "start kingdoms.exe @mods\Third_Age_3\TATW.cfg" to "start medieval2.exe @mods\Third_Age_3\TATW.cfg"
    4. Save and exit Notepad
    5. Start TATW

It should start up like normal.

I did that, but now all it does is start up the vanilla version of medieval. Instead of giving me the error.

Which .exe/bat file did you use to start TATW:

    medieval2.exe-M2TW Launcher, or, TATW.bat file located in your M2TW/ mods/ Third_Age_3 folder?

Sounds like your modded game that was in the americas folder got "steam rolled"...check my post above and go to the thread and see how some are coming up with ways to try to fix this

I use the one located in the Third Age folder. I'm not sure why it would send me into the regular game.

Possible workaround for this issue ( post # 161): http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...date-for/page9

Ok , i reinstalled everything another time yesterday evening...whole game ,third age, DAC, patches..And now it works. I made a copy of medieval2.exe and renamed it kingdoms.exe (a variant of the solution given in your link)..no more problem.

i think it needs to be stressed how important it is to make sure you have everything cleaned out after uninstalling....sometimes steam does not get rid of empty folders and such...just saying...and not cleaning the registry after doing this worries me a little bit too...maybe someone else smarter than me will comment on this......elvenkind ???
