Solution to mods not working? Try this:
OLDER POST: Credit to Gigantus and others.Won't the auto update remove the kingdoms.exe? If it doesn't then this is a non-issue in my eyes.
Can you confirm your method (Method 1) and try if method 2 works as well?
Method 1Make copy of medieval2.exe
Rename to kingdoms.exe
Start mods through regular BAT file
Method 2Change BAT file: replace kingdoms.exe entry part with medieval2.exe
Start mods through regular BAT file
Bare Geomod hasn't got a BAT file - it uses the Steam compatible modStarter, maybe that's where the problem was.
I got this in Steam:
It's re-downloading the game and I didn't activate it? It's happening with Rome too.
TEMPORARY FIX
There should be ways to get mods to work.
But in order to, you must edit the path of a kingdoms campaign to point to where the mod is in order to launch it. I'll try it because it used to work, but not 100% sure.
EDIT: Got SS to work and Third Age. Go to mods folder and rename the mod you want to play to a kingdoms campaign while renaming that actual campaign to something else.
It's not permanent but it should work for now.
If you are asked to purchase Kingdoms via Steam, this DOES NOT mean you do not have it. Instead of having it as an entirely different game as before, it is now a DLC sharing an entry with the base Medieval II game.
