Thread: Dracula Untold

    Default Dracula Untold

Anyone seen this? I always such movies regardless of how divorced from history they are as long as the quality is good. This one looks pretty good, armors, imagery, etc. What made me question it is that Wikipedia says that it's based on Bram Stoker's Dracula. The plot seems to be far away from that.

I like it. reminds me a lot of Da Vincis demons in the way that its complete fantasy in a historical setting which I'm fond of. Sort of a new twist on history, a bit of a fantastorical if you will. The turks in this look fairly accurate which is surprising for these kind of movies. Im sure we will get a new round of comparisons to 300 and the like though after it comes out. "this is the most racist thing I've seen come out of hollywood. Hollywood and its islamophobia" etc...

The armour designs, while I have no idea whether they're accurate or not, looks bad ass.

    Eh...

It would have been good if it wasn't 99% (from the looks of it) fantasy.

I mean who wants to see a movie of a guy who releases some age of mythology spells on an army? Far cooler to have actual hero-ish type combat :\

I do agree that his armor looks cool, though

Yeah I would rather see a historical Vlad the Impaler antihero film with a charismatic lead than this starring Bard from the Hobbit.

This could have been an incredibly good semi-historical drama but instead it gets ruined by crappy CGI and supernatural elements. Turks getting killed by giant fists made of bats. really? REALLY?

There is such a thing. A "made for TV movie" called The Impaler: A historical look on Dracula (or something like that). Good luck finding it though.

Besides that have two choices this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0240793/ (leads to vampire at the end but at least is more objective and accurate than all documentaries ever made)

this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0240793/ (cheesy and dripping with communist nationalism)

    Probably because reality doesn't sell.

because people assume the general public is retarded and can't tell the difference between the two. thus they think that fantasy-historical should not be made because people will believe the persians wore masks and used samurai swords.

and those are the same people who will believe just about anything. Doesn't mean we should all suffer because some people cant separate reality from fiction. and its a very small percentage that really do. only pseudo-historians trying to sound smarter than people believe that the gp is that retarded. theres always that one guy after a movie "You know that didn't really happen like that"

your gonna have a hard time making people believe that vlad was really a vampire and used his magical powers to take out an entire army of turks with bats.

I'm waiting for the true historical tale of Vlad Tepes. This probably will be okay and a Saturday diversion, nothing more.

    Probably a legal thing.

This has a few to many similarities with 47 Ronin - good rainy Sunday afternoon movies but nothing to make a fuss over..

As for Dracula/Vampire origin stories, this one still gets my vote..

Well, I guess using fantasy was the only way that they could make a story about Romania interesting, so I'll see it just to see what sort of gypsy magic Dracula uses to keep the Turks away. I am liking the armor.

Yep, the first based upon Dracula film, Nosferatu, had to have this very disclaimer ^, as the Bram Stoker estate was/is very protective of the original story.

now if we could just transplant that armor onto Rhaegar for a Game of Thrones prequel all would be well

Bram strokers Dracula looks prety ing cheesy by today's standards lol
