Steam Collection: Authentic Ancient World: In Search of the Legacy of RSII
Important (!)
It's amazing to see the TWR2 mod scene take off to such a degree! I just hope me get campaign and battle map editors soon...
I also must add: the idea of such a modular, component-designed mod is genius!

Thank you guys for the kind words.
I myself am waiting for new tools for quiet a while, especially fixing as much as possible about the entirely broken and partially hardcoded database and releasing a campaign map editor would do a serious difference to the scene of overhaul modifications. What we will never see probably is "real" new additions to the game, but they could give us at least better tools to clean up CA's mess.
On a side note, I already started to work on the Hellenistic overhaul. First results will be posted in here as soon as possible.
Cheers
Alec
Honestly it's a bit disappointing that the campaign starts at a different time from Rome Surrectum 2. It was really interesting having to deal with the huge armies in your territory as Rome, and gave potential big battles at the beginning of the game while most mods just stick with the traditional linear approach of starting small and building up. Both have their merits, of course, but why have this mod try and do what another 7 others (in terms of realism-based hosted mods) are already doing, and have been doing for longer and with a head-start?
Either way, I'm excited for the mod, but I do hope you change your mind
I totally understand your feeling. So far I am working on a lot of concepts (wow, its much more work than I expected). However, as much as I agree with your point, it doesn't mean that the concept of starting with a big boom isn't possible with 272 BC as a starting date. So far it looks like that there will be little unlocking "technologies" in my concept, except for ship and onager technologies. Factions will be starting with standing armies, unlocked units and cities like Sparta, Athens and Rome will be highly advanced and grown ones. I like it more realistic than the generic CA approach of having to start with a few slingers and blank and undeveloped capitals.
About the timeframe: I am indeed thinking about if I should change the starting date and just reuse the RSII descriptions 1:1 (which were gorgeous descriptions indeed). We will see what can be done here over the course of time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm incredibly excited for the future of this mod!
If anyone is interested to take a look at the working process here is a sample about the Spartan overhaul I am currently working on:
- Working Paper: Sparta
Once I finish this piece of work, the paper can be used as a template to overhaul each faction in that exact same way and scope. From A to Z, everything aims to create the most authentic and immersive overhaul with the tools at hand.
Furthermore, here is a new element of Authentic Ancient World:
- Faction Groups in Ancient Greek
There will be more translations (factions, provinces, regions and cities). Once I've been able to finish the translation of all of them, I will start with the actual faction overhauls. As expected things go very very slowly and therefore I am looking for creative minds and manpower. If anyone likes the scope, quality and detail of my work - including the new sample - than shout if you would like to contribute.
Cheers
Alec
Looking good! Can't wait to see the first screenshots.

Thanks for the kind words Nelduin.
I think it is also a very good moment to introduce a fellow friend who was so kind to agree to contribute to the new project of Authentic Ancient World. We have worked together in the past already and we seem to have the exact same viewpoint and preferences on ancient history and are both fans of Roma Surrectum II and an indepth modification of Rome II.
From now on he will be the Leonardo da Vinci of Authentic Ancient Worlds units. I seen his work and I must say, this guy is gorgeous. His units will be a fantastic addition to the pursuit of the spirit of Roma Surrectum II. I am especially happy to work with a good friend as its much more fun anyways to work within a friendly atmosphere.
I hope we can soon show you a nice faction preview of Sparta, coming alongside with the other faction changes I've presented in my working paper a few days ago.
So welcome Gagonious as a full member of Authentic Ancient World and praise his goodwill and his effort to share his work with Authentic Ancient World and make it available for the Total War community!
Cheers
Alec
PS: I want also to give many credits to Gagonious who shares my vision of Open Source and works hard to unit the developers scene of Rome II to collaborate freely amongst other modifications. That way he ensures that the experience of all users (not users of a specific modification only) is a better one. Thanks mate!
