Icon6 What faction did you choose?

    1) A little story on how you came to get the game.
    2) Which of the three Roman factions you first picked.

I was out at Walmart after Christmas in 2007 looking for new war games. I had played all of the Age of Empires games and all the versions they had out. I saw Warhammer 40,000 and thought it look completely boring and stupid. I played Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution and I liked it, but it was very boring after an hour of playing. I saw Rome Total War and was immediately intrigued. I got it, took it to the register and paid for it.

Once I got home I downloaded it immediately. The first faction I chose was the Brutii. The two reasons mainly I chose them was because their color was green (my favorite color) and because it was in the south and the thought of conquering what is now modern Greece.

I bought Rome TW as an disc. Do you believe that I could some add that to steam instead of buying it from steam? Because in that rare case that I should happen to lose the disc and it cease to work, it'd be nice to have steam there.

I had previously played 'Caeser III' and loved it, but I really wanted to spend a little more time recruiting and using those wonderful legions.
Civ II and then Civ V kept me going for a while since they had a great mix of strategy and world domination. Always played as Rome.
Somewhere in there I also tried 'Caeser IV' but it didn't quite click with me, it seemed like extra work for little additional gratification.

I had heard about 'Total War' but didn't really pay attention, then I heard about Rome II being in the works.
Ooh boy, that looked REALLY good but...it was going to be released soooo far in the future. I wanted my Legion fix now - what to do, what to do

Ah, perhaps that older 'Total War Rome' would be a good preparation, warm up before the greatest, bestest game in the whole wide world was released. Plus, it's only 10 bucks for the CD.
Got it, installed it - Hmm, this looks pretty good and the gameplay is really nice.

Oh yeah, Rome II is now coming out and...

No matter, I'm really happy with what I have with RTW. The temporary solution has become my permanent game fix.
Funny how that works out, just like most of life.

Those pretty red legions look nice, I'll play with them.
Plus I get to attack Gaul.

Julii, because the red banner looked like the real genuine Roman banner.

I was perusing the internets when I came across a 300 reenactment and subsequently got a colossal nerd boner.

After a brief fapping session, I went and downloaded it and put in large marathon sessions.

I bought it in 2005 and started with the Julii. The first battle against the Gauls was a sounding defeat. After a while I restarted the same faction on a higher difficulty level. I don't know how many months I played, but in the end Gaius Julius conquered Alexandria. I was a bit disappointed, though, that I didn't acquire Cleopatra as ancillary.

Afterwards I played the Greek Cities. I wanted to play Macedon too, which wasn't available in vanilla, that's how I made my first steps into modding.

I'm still playing, but now with the Rome Total History mod. And this time, when I reach Alexandria, I'll really end my game in the arms of the incomparable queen of Egypt!

I wonder if there's a porn site that caters to Rome: Total War players?

If I recall correctly Marc Antony ended his life in Cleopatra's arms.

You're right. Indeed that ancillary, among other effects, increases the risk of falling victim to assassination.
But, as they use to say: no risk, no fun!

My big brother introduced me to Total Wars about 7-8 years ago, the first faction I played with was Brutii if I remember right. I epic failed with the first game and I changed to Scipii, which became my favourite Roman faction.

Got it in 04 or 05. Was just a kid, I think 11 or 12. Played Scipii my first time. Favorite campaigns were with Greeks, Parthia, and Seleucids. I don't think I ever played as Egypt because I hated them so much lol

Yeah if I'm playing as a roman or someone kind of near Egypt the very first thing I do is sail to them and kill them off ASAP. If you leave them to grow Antioch, Memphis and that other hyper city get massive and they become insanely rich and start cranking out massive armies of desert axemen that never stop coming and zerg rush you. Its the same way I almost always kill Romans first if possible if I'm not playing as them. Otherwise they become huge and impossible.

I got it after my interest was sparked by Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar. The first Roman campaign I played was the Julii, as red suits Romans more than blue or green in my opinion, plus I wanted to conquer Gaul as Caesar did.

Several campaign restarts and lowering the difficulty to easy, I've still got my eyes on Gaul. If the Britons think they can hold the territories they've taken in Gaul, then I'll have to persuade them otherwise. I've got a wonderful persuasion tool. It's called a Legion.

I first saw the game on someone's laptop at school. I thought it looked really cool but hard to control. I later bought it on Steam for $5 with the expansion pack (wow super cheap). It didn't turn out to be hard to control.

Seleucid Empire is my favorite because they master nearly everything. Good pikemen, cataphracts, a good selection of light cavalry, scythed chariots, all the elephants, and exact duplicates of the Roman legionary cohorts. All they lack are horse archers and some advanced foot archers.

I remember seeing ,when i was a kid , those screenshots in a magazine with hundreds of soldiers attacking a city and i thought it was cool.I played the Julii first and didn't really like it and switched to Brutii and it was one of the best gaming experiences in my life and it still is . But my favorite faction are the Seleucids , I like the versatility in their unit roster.

I found the demo version on the german "Gamestar" magazine and loved the battle (Trebia). When the game was released I forced my dad to buy it for me. My first campaign was the Scipii, although I wanted to play Carthage :/

A friend gave me the game, said it was my kind of game. Sort of a repayment for having given him a copy of the original shogun total war. I started with the Brutii, they have the toughest early adversaries with the Greeks and Macedonians in my opinion but have a lot to gain from the rich and advanced Greeks.

Well, it was in my 8th anniversary in 2008, and I received that, with shogun as my birthday gift (among many others) from my parents, I was fascinated with the game, I chose the Scipii but I didn't know how it worked and I just watched the noats floating, but even like that it was so intense, like it almost screamed to me something like "I'm your game dude! Never abandon me, ok?"... Then I started the tutorials... I will never forget it
