Thread: New TWR2 Book spotted, "Sword of Atilla", (dd 27-01-'15). Upcoming expansion?

Default New TWR2 Book spotted, "Sword of Atilla", (dd 27-01-'15). Upcoming expansion?

On Amazon there's a new book by Gibbins, Sword of Attila (Total War Rome). It's expected release date is 27-01-2015.

As we know, the release of TWR2 was accompanied by another Gibbins books, Destroy Carthage.
So I'm guessing there's a big chance this will accompany an upcoming expansion.

    * It's still half a year away
    * No DLCs have been accompanied by a book (I think?)
    * The time frame is completely different
    * For Rome 1 the expansion was also about the Barbarian Invasions

Of course, it could also be a mini-campaign like CiG of HatG, but I suspect this is more akin to BI for Rome1.

What do you think? Gentlemen start your speculation engines!

Attila ? Bad news for me. Isn't that BI period ?

On topic yes. I believe that book will accompany Rome II main expansion rather than mini DLC. CA never failed to release games and expansion each year (except between M2TW:Kingdoms to ETW) so the expansion will probably come around Christmas this year and the book early next year.

I enjoyed barbarian invasion so much, I'd definitely buy BI2! Maybe since it's kind of a new game there will be some new features put in? Or at least some of the dafter onese removed, like not being able to separate single units from armies...I can dream.

Hopefully it's an expansion. I remember that BI for Rome 1 fixed many AI bugs back then Also Alexander. Hoping that it will be the same this time.

Yes, I think a Barbarian Invasion expansion sounds likely and a late 2014/early 2015 time-frame is reasonable.

But this is rome 2 we are talking about a expansion alone wont save, rome 1 had bugs and problems no doubt but they could be fixed, Rome 2 has huge design flaws a those arent fixed that easily, but lets hope for the best....

Can't be fixed with patches and DLCs, but but with code debugging and rewriting, rewriting the exe and dlls. BI for Rome 1 had different exe, which is the most important.
Also Fall of the Samurai for S2 was major upgrade for S2. CA has almost one year of criticism and feedback, now they have time to enhance and polish the d*mn game!
But I think it's wishful thinking from my part

However, CA has been recently making very big changes to their games with expansions, who knows what they are planning on doing with this one?

Glad to hear there's hope for an expansion. Love the time period too much and the series in general to just give up on Rome 2. I still see a lot of promise here it just needs a lot of work.

Barbarian Invasion 2. ing confirmed. Needless to say, there won't be many pre-orders. I'd buy it though, a month or so after release if it made genuine improvements over R2.

I'm going to kill the idea of a Peloponnesian War DLC right here. The geopolitical situation of the war was quite interesting in itself, but Rome 2 has:

    a) ridiculous diplomacy
    b) an awful political system

You must also remember that for the most part, the use of peltastai was in its infancy among Greek peoples and cavalry basically non-existent. You'll end up with an endless campaign of cookie cutter hoplites battling each other in mosh pits.
    ----------------------

BI2 does seem very likely to happen and would be very interesting to see in the R2 engine. This would be the kind of game where tiny random tribes in Germania should be able to make 2-3 armies and overwhelm overstretched Roman forces along the Rhine and Danube frontiers. It's going to require a bit of scripting though, because I wanna see the Huns, Goths, and Vandals as major players, not the Berbers, Alanni, or Carpi.

Has anyone else noticed how in the last unit spot light vid the melee cav of the Celts, Greeks and Romans was presented, but nothing on the Eastern factions???

My guess is that they are reserving them for another spotlight when they release an eastern factions dlc.

But BI2 won't have family trees and will still have bad AI and Generals that have teleportation technology.

    An unworthy successor.

For some reason I enjoy playing the East Roman Empire way more than Rome itself... so bring it on! I loved BI

It would not be a surprise such a DLC campaign...
Since the 1st announcement of Rome 2 and its features i expplained in detail that would be easy to make expansions like Barbarian Invasion II!
TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.
