Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (WAR) was a disappointment. Warhammer Dark Millennium never made it to launch. However now Eternal Crusade is coming and its certainly an interesting proposal.

Third person shooter with persistent world and territorial conquests with up to a thousand players taking part in a battle.
Like Dawn of War for the vanilla release Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, and Orks are playable and each faction is able to fight or ally with the other three (each faction has four playable Race/Sub Factions such as the Chapters for Space Marines (Blood Angels) (Dark Angels) (Space Wolves) (Ultramarines)). Apparently all the Free to Play people will be able to play as Ork Boys (apparently the Buy to Play Ork players would be Nob equivalents so they can go toe to toe with space marines and eldar specialists) because WAAAAGH! I really like the idea that the factions are designed to be asymmetric and balanced actively by events screwing over the winning side rather than through tweaking stats periodically with patches. They also said that Tyranids and (hinted at Necrons or a yet unknown race) will be in game as a PVE element that makes up approximately 15% of the game play as its focused on PvP. I presume that if the other three factions ganged up on Space Marines and the SM were taking heavy set backs the Tyranids could come into play and crush the coalition to take pressure off the SM.
It should be fun if its not terrible. I for one will wait and see.
