    Default R2TR (Beta) battle league!

    I would like to create a league for battles based in this mod. And since the mod is in beta, we might be able to provide valuable feedback.

    Ideally I would hope for at least 3 other players, the league will have 4 people each person playing each other person twice in one month. So it will only be 6 games in a month you are doing (obviously more if you and your opponent please) and we can sort out the rules in consensus. Is anyone interested?

    I'm all in! We could not only do battles, but also co-op and head to head campaigns. I believe that by playing the head to head campaigns we will be able to test balance for the factions.

    Good initiative. While I personally do not have enough time to do this myself I fully support this and will help whenever/whatever I can.

    Alright! The first three battles of this battle league have been fought, although unfortunately the third on was lost to historians(could not keep the replay). This time, we set up three small skirmishes, with a fund limit of 4500 to prevent recruitment of many elite units. Today's contestants were Elta and myself.

    Our first battle was Iceni vs Rome with an Iceni victory achieved by a single formation: Shield wall, the main Roman force charged at a shieldwall and were held, allowing for infantry to surround them. However the battle was close to turning sour when a Roman wing of cavalry reached for the Icenian rear, but got entagled in a melee with skimishers uninvolved in the main meele, this allowed enough time for Iceni's swift cavalry to reach them in time and take them out.

    The second battle was Makedonia vs Rome, with a Makedonian victory with highly defensive pikemen being to key to victory, even though they(read I) made a mistake by sending a pikemen slightly ahead of the line and promptly routed, Rome lacked cavalry so they were at the disadvantage, and the rest of the pikemen managed to hold their line.

    The third battle was an attrition battle between a Baktrian cavalry vanguard against a Carthaginian assortment of meele troops, and elephant unit and a single skirmisher cav unit. Baktria had 4-5 meele cav with 4-5 archer cav. The battle was divided in two fronts, one was held by a small amout of Makedonian meele units and the skirmisher cav(which routed) fending off and receiving the arrows of the Baktrian horse archers on the right flank, while on the left the rest of the army supported by elephants deterred the melee cav from charging. Eventually Baktria grew desperate(or ran out of arrows) and charged at the line, but the elephants countercharged along with spear infantry, taking out their main meele force and ready to receive the supporting charge of the archers who routed without taking much casualties.
    Unfortunately, this replay could not be kept. On a side note, I think the team should look into Carthage's mercenary units, they seem unbalanced, I am sure that the Baktrian archer cav could have routed, if not completely destroyed, a single unit of mercs that pursued them. But then again, without the replay I can't really see what Baktria used, so I don't know the quality of the horse archers that were used. Hopefully Elta will enlighten us with his own point of view in the near future.

    As you can see He wiped the floor with me.

    I really wish that we had the last replay. I had 4 units of cheaper horse archers (cost 650 I think). But After unloading 70% of their ammo on one unit they were unable to route it.

    In the second battle I had a fully upgraded unit of Syrian archers, given that they have the highest range of any non artillery unit (200) I decided to upgrade them and see just how many casualties they could get if well protected and, force Hoch to come after me. It was a decent enough strategy, but even when protecting the best foot archers in the game and letting them fire off half of their ammo into fairly closely packed units, they only scored 7 units.

    Now I know that archery was not at a very high level at this time period and portion of the world, but I didn't think they were that bad. At this point I can't see why I would use them. But this is going for Realism, maybe they are suppose to be that bad.

    Anyway, I am totally willing to do longer sessions and broadcast them.

    Hopefully more people will play with us, or July's tournament will just be me VS Hoch

    We'll have few updates coming soon. Maybe that will gain interest of some more people, especially if they like to play as Romans

    You got me excited now! I haven't really tested Romans with this mod, I guess I'm gonna wait to play as them.

    Sure thing, already accepted your friend request, we need to schedule an event list: a tourney, massive battles on 4v4, last stand battles with disadvatages(I am thinking, a 1v2 or 2v3 bridge defence?), we could even try to recreate historical battles! These are just some ideas, I am sure we can do many different things.

    We would certainly need a larger member-list, lol. Spread the word! Rome Total Realism is back! And is coming in full force!

    I've been thinking about a schedule on what to do, and I came up with this basic sketch on activities.
    First off, no matter how many players we have enlisted to the league, we can host weekly events, maybe on saturdays so that most players have enough spare time. We might need to hold two events though, one for the European timezones, and one for the American timezones. On these weekly events, we can could try doing general fun stuff and mess around with the factions to test them out, a few ideas are the recreation of historical battles, testing new tactics, having special challanges like a 1v3 and so on. These events won't be restricted to a single battle per event, if enough players desire to keep playing we might do as many as we like. Of course, someone will be keeping notes and saving replays to post here as feedback(anyone involved may post feedback) but there should always be one and s/he will be chosen before the matches begin.

    As a secondary event, we could host small tourneys over the course of many days with specific rules to be followed during each battle(like funds, type of locations, etc.). We could hold, for example, a thematic tourney with locations from Britannia only with a small fund pool to simulate skirmishes, or a theme of barbarians vs greeks, which could help determine how the unit balancing is affecting player strategies(cause nobody would charge a pikewall unless the charging unit was OP)

    This is just a proposition, not a ruleset, so anyone willing to add or object to something is free to do so.

    Edit: Once again I forgot to add that we used the Beta 1.6020614

    A new battle has been fought, on the European event(which certainly lacks players). The contestants were me and Kirinji, on a field snowy, forested battle, with large funds, Pontus vs Massagetae in battle realism mode. The result was a Massagetaean victory, who did an esplendid job of routing most of the Pontus infantry before taking on a pikebox, and then managed to break a gap in the pikebox and flooded in to rout the surviving Pontus infantry.

    What I found during this battle: Either horse archers and javelinmen are too weak or pikemen in phalanx have far too much resistance to missile fire, almost no pikemen died during a continuos barrage of both javelins and arrows.

    BTW I played almost no MP on any TW before, just 3 battle on vannila rome 2 so don't expect much
