    Default Questions about creating a new faction.

    1 - I found this. It says:

    All the symbols for all the Factions in their locations:

    Location: \data\banners
    Files: (each file includes 4 faction icons per image: upper left, upper right, bottom left, bottom right):
    symbols4.tga.dds (England, Portugal, Poland, Byzantine Empire)
    Also in same folder:
    symbols1.tga.dds (Venice, Sicily, Milan, Papal States)
    symbols2.tga.dds (Denmark, Egypt, Scotland, Aztecs)
    symbols3.tga.dds (Mongols, Turks, France, Holy Roman Empire)
    symbols5.tga.dds (Moors, Russia, Spain, Hungary)
    symbols6.tga.dds (Circles, Empty, Circles, Saxons)
    symbols7.tga.dds (Rebels, Rebels, Rebels, Rebels)

    Real File’s extension: .DDS
    Usage of the file in game: Symbols of the Flags & Panels that keep the soldiers in Campaign Map.

    My new faction is set as saxons, so it should read the symbols6 file, but it is actually reading the 5 one. I know it because I can identify the symbol from it in the stratmap campaign army banner.
    So there is a text file that says where it should point or what?



    2 - How can I have my faction in custom battles? In descr_sm_factions.txt I've set it as:

    custom_battle_availability yes

    But it stills does not show up in there. Maybe it is because I have not added any units for them yet?

    it's the bit that says
    standard_index
    the slots are numbered 0 to 3 are on tga 1, 4 to 7 and on tga 2 etc...
    (that might also be affected by the sd files - but that's how vanilla works)

    maybe - not sure it's that clever... if adding a unit doesn't help - check if you've actually got a spare spot for the icon on the custom battle menu screen!
    set someone else to no, and see if they turn up then. If you need to add a spot for them you'll need to change the menu.lnt in /menu.

    Hey, Im having something strange, playing as the new faction, everytime I adopt a new general, he instantly dies (the event of his death shows up).

    the faction needs a unit (any unit) in EDU with the general_unit attribute otherwise ^ happens

    I have encountered a little problem two days ago when creating 2 new factions, the Teutonic Order and Norway.
    The problem is that their symbols don't show up in the menu, so I can't select them to start a campaign but when I select another faction and look on the map, both factions are in the game.

    This is not the first time I added new factions, in the past I was able to add 4 new ones so I was wondering if there is a limit on playable factions?

    Some extra info: In my game there are now 28 factions, the 17 playable factions from vanilla + 5 unplayable (rebels, Aztecs, Mongols, Timurids and Papal States) + Saxons and Normans + my 4 new factions.
    30 factions if I already count the Teutonic Order and Norway with the rest.

    menu.lnt problem probably (not enough 'slots') - make one of the existing factions 'unplayable' and see if one of your new ones turns up in it's place...

    if it's that you can find info around here about altering the menu, or possibly download one that allows more factions.

    Thanks for the quick reply, it is indeed the mtw2.lnt file.
    I tried adding some new slots and now the two symbols are visible but when I click on them the game crashes.

    So I will try finding the error or as you suggest, changing a faction to unplayable or perhaps indeed download an already existing lnt file.

    My tutorial referred to earlier comes with a menu.lnt that displays 26 factions:

    Still not working, the symbols are visible but when I click on one of them, the game crashes.
    I tried using another mtw2.lnt file and placing an existing faction to 'nonplayable'. I really don't know what kind of error it could be.

    mak just mentioned something related in another thread: make sure the pictures for your new factions are available, eg special unit and faction map.
    Another (more likely reason) reason can be invalid victory conditions, eg non existent regions or factions

    yup, at this stage it's not a menu problem... and pictures only causes the problem if clicking around various factions before starting single player... so there's likely something up with your new factions set up, as Gig said maybe win_conditions, or perhaps missing bits of text files for the new guys.

    Do check your log file in case there's anything obvious there.

    Found the error(s) the cause of the problem were the victory conditions, one wrong region name for both factions.

    Couldn't agree more - I am trying to figure out why my custom animated part of the menu all of the sudden disappeared. The BIK file is there, the LNT file is unchanged...
