Same with Messi. Müller though I also find to be a genius because he also "creates his own shots" by being at places no one else thinks of, and not just in the box but all over the place. Hes a real anomaly since his technical abilities look wooden, but sometimes also very fluid and more Brazillian than the Brazillians.
These geniuses have failed consistently in three or more world cups now, at least when it went to the level where it actually counts so it still is of questionable value given soccer is a team sport so once the team players reach a certain average level one genius will get neutralized and won't do anything.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

    Lol:

I don't know what's worse, the reasons the FIFA gave or the fact that some guy at Yahoo actually thought that they make sense...

We, the commission, we look at all the games, and we judge that he was the most important man for his team. He went to the final, which is one of the conditions for the attribution of the trophy,"
Not that Messi contributed much in the knockout stage to reach the final. He gave the assist on Di Maria in extra time against Switzerland but the next three matches he wasn't decisive, he wasn't even visible most of the time. The Argentinian offense was unconvincing throughout the tournament. It was the defense with Mascherano, Garay and Zabaleta that pulled them through the knockout stage.

Moreover, Messi was more than decisive in the first four games. In the semifinal against the Netherlands, he took the first penalty and scored.
Messi was essential in the group stage, that's pretty much where it ends. After that he gave the assist on Di Maria. No idea how taking the first penalty counts into this thing, your regular penalty taker should always take the first penalty in a shootout IMO.

The analysis also takes into account the fact he was the captain of a united team. A team that played well together. That's something we hadn't seen for a long time from Argentina.
Yeah, the captain in the entire WC, everyone saw that Mascherano was the true captain of the team. He was the one motivating the team when the games went to extra time, Messi was just standing at the edge of the circle listening. If anything he should be getting less points because of his role as a captain. Seeing your captain strolling around in the central circle while your team has to defend doesn't really give you a morale boost...

Ronaldo failed? Messi didnt fail either. Argentina made it to the finals and Messi saved their sorry asses a few times. Even in the finals he wasnt "bad". He was just another good unselfish offensive player and not involved in computergame action.

The problem like I said after the first Argentina match and seeing the quantumloop all over again, is just is that Argentina for a decade fails to utilize Messi. On offense they have to many overrated players like Higuin and Guerrero, who are also good players but they think themselves as to good to play in service of Messi. Which Argentina would need in order to play some crisp fast pace type game, that is able to launch Messi in situations where he can excell.

Whats your point anyway? That über players cant win titles?

Got nothing to with that. Its about über teams yes, but one doesnt exclude the other. Ronaldo btw in 02 and Romario in 94 where part of über defensive teams Zidane in 98 was also part of a well olied machine.
