Default The Royal Road - Our Development Journal

    Welcome everyone!
This thread is a continuation, if you can say that, of the thread made by rez also called
The Royal Road - Our development journal; the purpose of the thread is to show the updates of the current work being done to the Rise of Persia v3. I've made this thread so that i can have more controll in what is the thread will have to show you, and also to be better organized.

Our development journall will be shown as a development issue; whenever comes a post with the title of development issue, it means that its a preview of the mod. Whenever you have an idea that you want to share, please post it on the
ROP V3.0 Suggestions Thread; however,if you just want to say something about an development issue that is posted you can say it here on this thread.

Some sticky threads were unsticked for organization issues, so that now all threads serve a specific reason.
We are to few, and if you want to help please send an request to the Rise of Persia Group; is there that we are discussing and trying to apply some of the changes for the mod; of course that we will always will give you an update on the situation threw this thread.

It has been a long time, but we are actually trying to finish this great mod, and i myself want really hard to end it.
This mod was the reason to make me like Total War in the first place, and threw this mod i was able to know the Achaemenid Culture, to which im now in love with

    Default Development Issue #1

    Dahae Mercenaries (ROP Original Work)

    Dāhāspa:
Dāha Riders carry a short sword besides their bows and are willing to press home a charge if circumstances are right. Even more significantly, they maintain a very useful tactical flexibility as they can skirmish and put their bows to very good use against solidly formed enemies that would repulse a headlong charge.

    Dāha Arabāzuka:
The nomadic horse rider nation of the Dāha would also have regular foot soldiers to fill their ranks, and of those who hired them. Having the same equipment has the cavalry, these archers should not act as front line soldiers; their main role is to hide and let the cavalry draw the enemy armies close to them, so that they might send a volley of arrows upon the backs of the enemy.

    Default Development Issue #2

Assyrian Mercenaries (Bronze Age: Total War Original Work)

    Aššur Martianni:
These heavy infantrymen use the old pointed Assyrian helmet and their shield is made out of thick and sturdy wood, with his boss made out of bronze. To attack their opponents these infantrymen are equipped with a couple of javelins to harass the enemy, and their main weapon is the Assyrian bronze sword.

    Aššur Nāš Qašti:
The Assyrian Archers are armed with composite bows, which make them a class above most archers. They have long ranged bows and carry a good amount of arrows. They can be expected to use their arrows to devastating effect, but when engaged in melee, they will be cut down in droves.

    Default Development Issue #3

African Mercenaries (Bronze Age: Total War Original Work)

    Neh’esu Khet:
These men are armed with only a spear and shield, as the scorching heat of their homelands impedes the use of armor. Their lack of heavier armament shouldn't be taken as sign of weakness however, as they can fight in good order and they can defeat opponents more armored than them, due to that. They are best used as supporting infantry and can give a good account of themselves against most soldiers, but their lack of armor has it definite drawbacks, so they should be kept out of enemy archers' range whenever possible.

    Neh’esu Sesmet:
Although the horse itself is instrument of the Kushite warfare since more than two thousand years, the riding of a horse itself is comparatively new to them. Having not yet fully discovered the combat potential of horsemen, they mainly serve as scouts, messengers and occasionally skirmishers in pitched battles. They are no match for any other horsemen, neither concerning training nor equipment.

    Neh’esu Wedi:
Skirmishers form the backbone of any Kushite army, especially bowmen. Hunting being an important part in Kushite life, at least in the interior plains and mountains means there is no shortage of able archers to call upon from the Kushite lands. In addition to their bow, every archer also carries a club for close combat should it happen.

Arabian Camels Mercenaries (Europa Barbarorum Original Work)

    A'mu Gamal:
Many nations of the known world, especially the Egyptians, hired arabian mercenaries to ride in their camels and to cause havoc in the enemy cavalry.

    Default Development Issue #5

Italian Mercenaries (Hegemony City States Original Work)

    Vitulis Akontistai:
Skirmishers rush forward to pepper an enemy with javelins, and then withdraw in good order before a counter-attack can be organised.
(There's not yet a proper description for this unit)

    Vitulis Xiphophoroi:
This infantry is equipped with small throwing javelins, a sword, and an Italian shield that provides excellent protection.

    Kampanoi Hippikoi:
Campanian cavalry is a versatile cavalry, who can be either used to harass the enemy formations or break them if they find them disorganised.

Nice unit choices! It would be even more interesting, if some shields could be reworked and had some drawings on them, but i don't know how difficult this can be. May i ask wheh will we see the campaign map?

Really nice unit choice, but were there Assyrians still around in the timeframe of RoP?

from what i read they were.
They were one of the most prominent mercenaries in the Achaemenid Empire; and whend Darius came to the throne the Assyrians rebelled.

    Baktrian Mercenaries (ROP Original Work)

    Bāxtriš Sūra:
Armed in the traditional Iranian infantryman's fashion; these spearmen serve like the Sparabara, protecting their compatriots whilst they discharge their missiles. Their tower shields are very effective at protecting against missile attacks but their light construction means they can only hold out for so long against determined heavy infantry.

    Bāxtriš Ashta:
When paired up with their protective spearmen these archers make an excellent defense against the roaming nomads that surround Baktra. They come from a highly disciplined archery tradition and their skills are obvious to anyone witnessing their rain of death. Armed only lightly they rely heavily on supporting infantry to guard them.

    Hebrew Mercenaries (ROP Original Work)

    Ivrim Adino:
Just starting now their lifes has mercenaries, these Hebrew Spearmen still have a lot to go until they can be called true soldiers; their weapons and shields are inferior quality, and their morale is pretty low.

    Ivrim Kaved Adino:
These heavy spearmen have many years of experience serving has mercenaries; they can resist better than the regular hebrew spearmen, both at attacking and defending; however, their morale is still pretty low.

    Default Development Issue #9

Kambojan Mercenaries (Classical Age: Total War Original Work)

    Aśvakas:

the Aśvakas still use their native Kambojan armour; along with a strong shield and a long spear to charge at the enemy. They can also fight well at close quarters, with their short swords they can inflict massive casualties to the enemy infantry. Of course that excellence comes with a price, and the Aśvakas demand alot.

Nice unit additions! The Kambojas are really a beautiful and special unit. Should we expect more from Hegemonia's original work? Their thracian units were beauitful (very colourful) and some hoplites (Argeioi, Corinthian, Crotonian and many more) were really astonishing, especially their shields were a piece of art.

That's exactly what are going to do
However, i dont think that we should add more greeks. They are already with many units in my opinion.
