Ah, Age of Mythology. Where you could pit Kraken against Colossi, Sphinx against Manticore. Then start throwing meteors at people. Fans of Ensemble Studios' classic RTS will be happy to hear that it's coming to Steam in remastered form with several new features and updated graphics.







Age of Mythology was basically Age of Empires with added myths and monsters, allowing players build, gather and fight as the Norse, Egyptians or Greeks. The new version, Age of Mythology: Extended Edition, will be similiar to last year's Age of Empires II HD, updating the graphics with high-res textures, antialiasing and ambient occlusion, while also throwing in a few new tricks like Twitch TV and Steamworks integration. The game will also come with the Titans expansion, which adds the Atlantean race and a new campaign.

Agreed. The fact that some people bothered to ressurect this title after more than ten years is a testimony of how legendary this game really is. I'm sure many will flock to buy the extended edition.

hm well I have age of mythology installed on my computer, and this version simply doesnt seem to be adding enough new stuff for me to want to buy this as well.

Sure water and the enviroment looks a bit nicer, but why didnt they even bother improving the polygon count of the units? they always where the ugliest part of the game compared to the rest, and now they seem to pretty much make everything look better aside from the units, which need the visual upgrade the most.

I'd be happy if it at least was on par with the models used for some characters in the cinematics.

28 euros for a 12 years old game. Not bad, next step Empire Earth HD for 150 euros and Civilization II HD for 354 euros.

So they've added some shadows, day/night cycles (read, glorified shadows) and some slightly improved lighting, and this is supposed to be worth the release price of a game? Shame they can't make a sequel instead, or something else actually worth buying.

They just didn't add enough.

With age of empires 2 there was the benefit of it working properly on all new systems while age of mythology does not have such problems.

Now if they provided a new faction like the romans or persians, it would have been worthwhile. Or maybe at least highly improved character models that look like people and arent blocky things.
