    Default WIP - Visual mod based on the movie 'Hobbit' - for MOS 1.62

    Hello!

    It's my first time posting the thread.

    Anyway, I am currently working on Visual modification of units based on the movie 'Hobbit'

    I began with Mirkwood - Woodland Realm units, I will be moving on to Dwarves when elves are done. Dale and orcs are secondary for me, because I don't play them as much as elves and dwarves

    I can only do it like 6 hours per a week, therefore I assume that it will take approximately 2 months to be completed. When everything is done, I will work on the Smaug as the last unit.

    I play mos 1.62 sub mod, hence all the units are from MOS1.62

    Good work!

    There is still room for imprvement imo. To make them more like in the movie you could make new shoulder armour for them. Most of their metal armour parts seem to be covered with wood (or leather that is painted like wood?) to blend better into the environment and also most of the surface of the shield is wooden, yours looks pure metal. The helmet's texture could have more details too.
    So if you could do that, they'd be nearly perfect!

    This looks great. Finally I'll be able to play Mirkwood, thanks to you.

    This is a fantastic project! Best of luck indeed. Once you have these units ready I will be knocking on your door for permission in DaC.

    I would suggest talking with Jox at length as he has already created 'Hobbit' Dwarven armour for their entire (main stream) roster.

    Thanks for the references! Yes, I was aware of those parts that you mentioned, but I still coudn't decide whether I should go leather or wooden. I guess what they are doing for movie is like they make costumes with leather or something cheaper but they do some compositing - color grading on it for each shot, so they can decide what material they wanna use for each shot. Just like those golden edge parts of armour from the movie is actually not there for the costume, but They fixed it later during post production.

    Yes, I got a message from him. We can discuss about what we can do. I guess that we can merge them.

    My answer is YES. I think that we can either merge our stuffs, or you can use my stuff freely.

    Since, you've already done great job with dwarves units, and you are going to work for dale units. I won't have to do them

    Instaed I can work for Amgmar units.

    I remember seeing someone from Weta in a vid talking about a wooden part (and colouring it) used in shields and since on some shots armour looks like the piece of wood they showed, I guess wood is the right material.

    cool! Then, I'm gonna go wood for the shield and leather for the body parts. What do you think abt those golden edges. btw, do you know how to fix or delete posts?

    You can only edit posts once you have 25 posts under your belt, you can never delete posts but you can ask for moderators to do it for you. (I believe the TATW moderators are ElvenKind and Ngugi)

    I think it'd just be safe to have them just metal, different from the other materials. The golden edges were in AUJ, who knows if they've decided to keep them or not for There and Back Again.
    From this pic the surfaces look like wooden texture to me even the helmet
