Thread: Vanillla 3.2 essential bugfixes

  1. #1

    Default Vanillla 3.2 essential bugfixes

I was wondering if there was a list of essential bugfixes for a fresh install of Third Age Total War 3.2 (vanilla / no submods). I mean fixes to TATW itself, not Windows settings and the like. Does anyone know of other essential fixes for bothersome bugs? Should a list such as this be included on the installation page?

Elvenkind's fix of the reinforcement bug
    Link
Without it, battles may crash to desktop when reinforcements are participating

Moneybag's fix of the Mumakil Training Ground
    Link
Without it, Mumakil production will be impossible for Harad.

Ignore this post: was 3.1, fixed in 3.2.

I posted a report in the Bugs thread about a missing name for Dale (pretty sure it was 3.2, not earlier). As a result his name is blank in the game - but it's not a starting character so chances are random.

I found the other day that if a blank-name character gets an epithet then CTD. I'd call that an essential fix but you'd need to search the Bug thread for what the name was.

Some of your posts found there, can anything be used to make and post some fix if needed?

    That many!?

    - would not suggest fixing it. It would affect growth factors which were painstakingly worked out by KK.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post11750108
    - not major. The descriptions just need matching to the actual effect levels.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post11969414
    - that's fairly major I'd say. Solution is here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post11969407

    - that post has the fix.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post12192219
    - harmless.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post12638265
    - don't know if it's a bug or just a wrong comment

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post13186546
    - hard to say if they should be fixed because the game has gone so long with them this way, as though that's the way they should be. Not major. Nevertheless, the fix is explained in that post. e.g. Under guild_greek_history_guild in EDB all of the "event_counter is_the_ai 0" should be "not event_counter is_the_ai 1".

No sign of the missing name? It might have been an earlier version after all.
    - EDIT: yep, it was a 3.1 bug. Fixed in 3.2. I also checked 3.2: no missing names.

Thanks for the explanation of every post mate!

Haven`t found that post of yours regarding missing name, but you sorted out that too.

I have made an update for vanilla Third Age 3.2 version with all these bugfixes included in ALL IN ONE.file to be:

    - downloaded, extracted somewhere on your Desktop using either WinRar or WinZip program or which ever you use, and just use copy/paste method to get all bugfixes for vanilla Third Age 3.2 version installed. The Readme.txt file has all the steps explained.

Of course, starting a fresh new campaign is needed to get the fixes working.

    Download link

Feel free to share the link and files.

Note for Steam Medieval II TW Users:

    -
Do not delete *strings.bin files as instructed in the Readme.file, since Steam version has trouble with regenerating those. You are fine with leaving them as they are.

I did two clean installs of 3.2 only, and applied your fixes per their instructions twice, and it causes an immediate CTD. I see the startup screen, and it closes without going fullscreen.

Yep, I'm getting a CTD at loading screen as well; Steam, windows 7. I followed all instructions to the letter.
One thing I noticed is the game recreates about 10 of the 27 strings.bin files when I try a restart, but with them present I don't even get to the loading screen.

If i didnt have a problem with 3.2 before these changes, and i downloaded the new mos submod, would the game still have issues?

Ah, sorry there, one extra space was in export_descr_buildings.txt file which was causing an issue. Sorted now. Link updated in previous post, and here it is again if you missed it.

    BUGFIXES_ALL_IN_ONE

Just replace export_descr_buildings.txt in your Third_Age_3/ data folder with the new one from the link. Delete map.rwm file and strings.bin files as instructed (if you have Steam M2TW, then do not delete *strings.bin files).

MOS Team probably fixed these vanilla issues on their own. These bugfixes are for vanilla 3.2 version only, not for any other submod.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it back to Ngugi again.. Homer Simpson doup..

Also, most of credit goes to Withwnar for posting solutions for fixes, I have only collected them and put them together.

I must follow this final step "And, delete *strings.bin files from Computer:/.../Medieval II Total War/ mods/ Third_Age_3/ data/ text folder. There should be 26-27 *strings.bin files.".
There isn't nothing. Here they are the pics of the folder.

Well, in your case, strings.bin files are those VLC files. At the top of that window, press on File Type, and delete those 27 VLC files which have strings.bin as a name extension.

    Oh.
And when I've done this step "- Delete map.rwm file from Computer:/.../Medieval II Total War/ mods/ Third_Age_3/ data/ world/ maps/ base folder.", I tried to open the game and I had an error in the cmd that says "impossible to find (path)...map.rwm".

That's really weird, the game shall recreate the file by itself as soon as the game starts.
    Delete it again and test?
