Default How to reduce lag for this mod?

    Hi there fellow DEI players

    I have an I5 3570 processor, GTX 760, and 16gb ram.

I can run Rome 2 fine and after the patches it seemed pretty smooth. However after hearing that this mod is CPU intensive and suffering lag issues, can you lot helkp me to reduce this lag? Any tips? Do I have to switch to 1 cores or something?

I just want to get rid of the lag.

    Thanks.

    Hello.

I also noticed that this mod decreased my fps a lot. In Radious for instance I could have 10 000-man battles on higher settings than I can have 8000 battles in DeI - I wonder why this is the way it is. Is it new textures or something?
I'm aware of the vanilla lag-bug in sieges when you or the AI burns the gates (patch 10).

Well as far as the campaign map goes I heartily recommend the no clouds mod, it made a huge difference for me.

I've heard some people say turning AA off to make a significant difference. I tried it myself and it definitely seems to, and AA isn't something that makes a terribly huge visual difference in a game like Rome 2 (at least to me), so it doesn't really cause things to look much worse.

For 1.0 we will work on optimizing the textures to the most so they case less lag as possible.

Before that point two solutions could be to decrease quality of things you need less (as buildings, sky) and especially lower unit quality (that's the most intensive setting of all). You will have less variation on units (if you put it low no variation at all) but your FPS will increase by a lot.

Actually it is not the variation in the units that causes the most of the FPS hit, it is actually the LOD of the textures. The problem is that CA associated the two. It's not possible to lower the LOD while keeping an high variation of the units and so to lower one you have to lower also the other. A possible workaround if you know how to do it is to reduce the LOD via the drivers (for example with Nvida you can do this with Nvidia Inspector or similar application).

My only problem are in the battles. Especially when units are of 300 which will jagger and move weirdly. When it is units of 180 units its smooth animation. Basically the mod is stattering with over 200-300 unit sizes.

I can play NTW 3 fine with no problems.

The campaign is fine, sorry forget to mention that.

    Thank you for your message.

Ah I see, so it is the textures that are causing this? I have very bad textures when zoomed out and that's from CA's patch. I tried going on medium settings, but the graphics always revert to any options it likes.

And thanks for letting us know that you'll be trying to reduce lag as much as possible with those textures. In the meanwhile, I shall find ways to reduce lag from other means.

    Thanks again.

    Hey,

things that acutally help you if you have nvida is this:

Go to your nvdia system control panel. Go for manage 3d settings (got the german version).
Look for the followling lines and do the same settings as i post.

    Power management mode: [Max performance]
Texture filtering - negative LOD bias: [Clamp] ( I will try this now myself, got similiar problems than you and i try "Clamp" now)

I will start to investigate it and post solutions.

I tried the two things you wrote and noticed that I had slightly less fps drops in larger battles - I even went back to higher settings which I had with the Radious mod! +Rep to you TheOrangeProject!

Your welcome. I also had a slightly lag decrease.

Sadly the problem, at least for me, is not the unit details. But on the other hand, maybe it was also a siege bug lag which exist since release. (just a village battle but yeah)
Even all settings on low didnt help.
I will do further testing in the next days. (playing with a gtx 680)

You can go to the same Nvidia panel and try changing the max prerendered frames value to 1. This helped me a little with the sluggishness of the game.

What is it's equivalent for an ATI card?

Catalyst Control Center should be the ATI equivalent.

Thank you Orange Project, and will I have to enter these options in it? Or will I get to change it? On Friday I'll be back on the pc as I'm not on my normal one, but I'll have a go at this, thx.

    @lawl
I will also try this out as well, thx.

DEI also has more men than vanilla, you can decrease unit size in the game options. as far as siege lag, i have found the solution for this, simply destroy various points of the wall and attack from more than one area, the lag happens because the game cant handle everyone attacking and defending one single point. If there is a substantial garrison or a full stack defending a city then i usually bring enough artillery to destroy 5 or 6 sections of a wall. that of course means bringing 5 units of ballistae. I usually always attack with 2 stacks in that case, one stack is strictly for breaking walls and wearing down defenders (mostly ranged units) and the other mops up whats left.

Is there an option the remove/reduce the smoke effect on burning walls and gates? It massively tanks my FPS

THIS. It also makes fort battles almost unplayable as you've got the entire AI army trying to bottleneck one of the fort entrances and the palisade in front somehow catches fire which makes it almost a slideshow for myself.

Yes I have this problem too. It looks like there are too many smoke particles overlapping in small area which is completely unnecessary and pointless.

I agree. I think the game engige was huge problem with the collisions "in all gate"-situations.
I also play DeI with medium unit seize. Helped me quite a bit.

    @ Marshall of France

No, you dont have do add anything Just change the values in the lines.
