Icon6 Borders princes? Looks like russian more than warhammer!

Hi guys, while I was playing with my beloved orcs in the campaign I've faced the border princes faction. As a warhammer border princes player I was wondering of armies of pikemens, crossbowmen, ogres, cannon, dwarves ecc.. but.. They are russians! Why they are so poorly developed? Where are the basic pikemen (not the famous ricco, pirazzo etc..) Is there a submod or a mode to change that horrible roster?

Border princes units were originally taken from Rusichi mod and then retextured to be more "warhammer" alike. They are also mixed little bit with some Tilean/Estalian units and uniques, like Carlssons cavalery regiment. So they are not russians by any means, like Kislev is not russians, ukrainians or polands. Since Border princes is the land of the harsh free people, who lived in the forests and fortified villages and often pillaged by casual orc warbands, actual roster is fits the most. BUT, if you still unpleasant with it, we will gladly watch, how you will rework it.

Well, this reconstruction of the border princes is quite approximative. They have a full background of both history and unit types and excuse me, the voivoda lancers are not present in warhammer nor the russian style. They have their own style and their own unit, my question births from the fact that every faction is well designed while the border princes are fairly poor, so poor that they haven't even the vanilla pikemens. And so I've asked if there are sub mods or tools to fix this problem or not. I'm not talking that I can do a better mod than this one that remais the best mod for me

I forgot to point that their style is the italian reinnassance style not the eastern europe style

I assume you dont read that history. They dont have italian style. They are mostly wild people/colonists. They have pikeman. Again, they are not russian. And again, roster fits to the idea what they have to be and to the armybook(wich officialy did not exist, lol).

No? And what about the printed one by gw? Or the subsequent official rules? Maybe they don't have a current codex (even the chaos dwarves have one, it is forgeworld) but the official background tells that they are free companies of mercenaries that comes from tilea, estalia or the empire. So why they have eastern style skins is my question.

My main idea is that you are not fully wrong =) Since army book for Border Princes did not exist, we cant tell with 100% from whom their army should consist but we can logically assume who they might be. Border territory populated not only by mercenaries, but by free people too, and they have to be there, at least as militia. In the future, concept will be reworked, so the elite troops will be represented with more wide collection of mercenaries, empire, bretonnian and even dwarf warriors. One guy from the submod section already made some of the conceptual units for the Dogs of War style here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post12718955. And most of background story printed by BL and those pictures wich accompanies them are fits to the current look of the Border Princes. The main problem is that there is not enougph people to redone Princes, even here. There is a lot of work to be done in other directions.

They should look like a generic medieval society made up of foresters, farmers and villagers. Mission accomplished. They have a slight slavic look, a slight italian look, a slight Frankish look, a slight norse look and many others. There might be a slight favour towards a slavic look there, but I'm quite sure that's to give them a unique look in the warhammer world, as is justified by the lore.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are so certain of themselves, but wiser people are full of doubts.

I don't know how Russians tend to communicate, but 87axia (who's obviously no native english speaker neither) does not sound like a troll to me, he just doesn't like the look of the Border Princes Units.
And i tend to agree, the slavic look doesn't belong anywhere else than in Kislev in this Warhammer world.

Not going to slime my way out of this by praising the best of all mods...
"The only question that remained was whether the founders knew the final result of their creation, or if they themselves where the victims of a misunderstanding.
In the latter case it was the duty of any thinking human, to press himself into the front of this depraved movement, to perhaps still prevent the extreme, in the former case the founders of this peoples disease must have been true devils; for only in the brain of a monster - not of a human - could the plan for an organisation take meaningfull form, whose purpose must lead toward the end result of a collapse of human culture and thus to the desolation of the world.
In this case only battle remained as a means of final delivery, battle with any weapons that the human mind, intellect and will are able to comprehend, regardless, of whom fate would gift with it's blessing."

Yeah, he's probably just bad at English.

I guess the biggest problem is that the Border Princes don't really have anything that could be called a regular army, so it's difficult to represent them in the game. Now that I think about it, they could get the ability to recruit Free Company troops. Maybe hire some mercenary Imperials, or exiled knights...

Border princes remind me of the balkan slavs. Who were always at war with each other. And allied with one another when needed. Just like how border princes function. And before slavs came ostrogoths controlled much of the balkans. And before them It was Illyrians. Balkan slavs could be seen as "border princes" Considering it was a border between catholic, orthodox. And a gateway to the east through Turkey. And in bosnia you had a mix of both and in modern terms the "bosnian church" who welcomed "heretics". Just like how border princes accept exiles.

That Balkans thing makes a lot of sense.

This thread amuses me x) who cares anyway? Well, unless you actually play as them, what does it matter? As stated above, they're just a meat-wall between the civilized world and the Orcs. All I ever do is destroy them, and then it doesen't really matter how they look the main thing is that every other faction looks simply amazing. ^_^

Not really fitting. Border princes are brave humans from all over empire, bretonnia, tile, estalia. It is shown in books that some bretonnian crusades were made to free those lands and any unlanded nobles took lands from there so slavic does not really fit much.

Venetian Republic, so partially in the Balkans, with foreigners and mercenaries ruling, fighting against invaders. Even though Verezzo is the Warhammer version of City-State Venice, it doesn't fit as well there, being inland, while Venice was anything but inland.
