Ha! Does this mean you can't take Rome from the beginning?. The romans in R2 are not like RTW... Back then they never lost. Never saw it once. In R2, the AI always beats them. Dividing them in R2? They lose united! The icons bring back memories though
.
yeah actually played it a bit, the 3 families are all client states of the senate and each one has about twice the income of starting rome in vanilla R2. Needless to say the game will return to the victory days of Rome in the old game. Anyone that attacks another becomes an enemy of all lol
the scippi get most of Syracuse units as auxillaries and the brutti get a lot of greek units too
This is just the excuse I needed to start a roman campaign (again).
what happens to civil war, is it gone or does it still occur?
Looks interesting But not compatable with DEI and honestly cant play the game without DEI far more realistic battles far more interesting general progression.. Far better CAI BAI hell the weather effects for seasons alone make it a winner... Id like them to add something like this though LOL..
guys ive been playing this mod for a while now and it is excellent. Not only does Rome finally begin to expand and conquer but you can also be issued objectives from the spqr and other roman families. This is very close to the missions that you could receive from the senate in Rome I!
I love this mod, as to the number of units then you can either download some unit packs or you could wait for toon to add this mod to his compilation (which he has agreed to) , it will work beautifully alongside the legions modd and his BAI improvements !
As to the civil war mechanic, then i think that its just a fight between the 3 families now since you all have a degree of autonomy from the other families.
You can declare war on them in the first turn but if you do then all the other families turn on you and they are definitely strong enough to give exterminate you within the first few turns.
A better plan is to build up your armies and get them some combat experience against the rest of the world and then battle against the other families, ofcourse the other families will also have that strength because they really do go out and conquer other territories.
Its an excellent mod, one which must receive more credit as it makes CA's crappy politics system obsolete and improves family mechanics as a whole !
If you work to earn a living, why then do you work yourself to death?
thanks for the info kami, that sounds exactly like the original rome (apart from senate ordering you to kill yourself hehe).
i really like the look of this mod and the comments on steam are very praising. its in early development but im definitely keeping an eye on it and will try it out after my current campaign.
hmmm...now if only someone can figure out how to get rid of the awful building limits, horrid UI, world taxation, transport ships, huge cities, zoc mess, ..... and we will almost have![]()

What happens to missions? For example Epirus and Carthage get the mission: 'Declare war on Rome' or 'Be at war with the following faction: Rome', which faction does that relate to with this mod, the senate faction? Also do al the Roman factions still have missions and are they all the same or are there different missions depending on which faction you pick?
SPQR gives you missions like in the old game, as for the other factions, If you declare war on one roman faction, you declare war on all of them, So I assume be at war with rome would still be fullfiled no matter what faction you want to fight.
I think the missions are fairly random, although haven't palyed enough to tell you if they are different for all 3, I doubt it, but as the Scippi, I've gotten a mission to take Sardinia, so I assume they are based on the faction you play and meant for you to conquer along a certain path, ie brutti you will fight a lot of greeks, jullii barbs, and scippi, carthage/iberians
btw civil war mechanic is gone, apparently he wanted to trigger it against the other factions like the old game but couldn't make it work

I've seen Rome sometimes expand, and sometimes it doesn't. I don't think that's wrong - why should Rome get special treatment? It's like any other major faction. Sure it's a big player, but the unpredictability of the campaigns is the fun part. If Rome is always going to be huge and big, what's the fun in seeing the campaign unfold?
maybe because its the title of the game? If I wanted to see Delmatae Total war I would have bought that.
I have yet to see Rome expand without heavily scripted mods in its favor like, Major factions mod or No Forced march. Even then they rarely get much farther than italy and the farthest I have seen is Lupfurdum

While true, I still don't think Rome needs cheats to make it big. If it doesn't get big, eh. That's just how the campaigns go. I don't get mad that in Shogun 2, the Shogun never gets large either (not counting when I become Shogun, of course).
Though Rome is probably bad name for a game series, given you don't have to play Rome, but I guess "Ancient Total War" didn't sound as catchy... I've seen Rome expand a pretty fair amount in my campaigns, though they're all fairly early game so far. So no telling how far Rome will actually go.
sure wouldn't want to see it get big every time, and even in Rome 1 occasionally it didn't get big and one or more of the families would get killed off by the AI usually when not playing as the Romans. However in Rome 2's case, I have never seen Rome do more than capture Sicily or Transalpine and Cisalpine gaul or launch a short lived expedition into germania. Never have they gotten a foothold in Greece, or taken over Carthage territory in Spain or Africa, someone else always gobbles them up. I have seen them take Carthage once, but Masselyi took the rest of the province.
As for the second sentence, we can debate all day why the Game is called Rome, but If I buy a game called Rome, I expect to either conquer as the Romans, or have to fight them eventually. BTW there's your solution to the late game crawl right there, if playing as a non-Roman faction, you will have a nice juicy historical superpower to fight towards the end. Playing as Rome, you will have large random civil wars start over this or that person getting too much power just like in history.
Yippee, someone brought the old families back! Now if it were only more compatible with other mods...
im in shock, does this work for all factions?
