    Default As Good As Gold - BETA RELEASE

    AS GOOD AS GOLD



    This is a submod/resource which will add The Golden Company to Westeros Total War. It will probably be included in the next version of WRM and I am happy to grant permission to any other submods wishing to use it! The One condition of this is that any work done to the units, their pictures, or their text-file entries can also be used to improve the main version as well (credit will obviously be given). Also, please give he a heads up if you use it as I'd like to check my massive ego demands it .

    IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT BALANCED. It will be in future versions, but for now the unit costs and stats are totally out of wack. If you have experience at balancing units please take a crack at it (you shall be rewarded with some rep ).

    OTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: To play as them you must select Stannis and have the period be "all". However, they are mercenary units, so feel free to assign whatever ownership you want without having to change any of the modledb entries. Have Fun!

    Download Instructions: Export the "data" folder into your Westeros Total War folder. Merge and overwrite when prompted. This is designed for .53, but it should be compatible with Youngbloods and some others (back up EDU, EU, and modledb just in case though ).

    Feedback: not sure on the scabbards; they look too large.

    Also, where's the elephants at?

    Elephants are probably not coming for awhile . Still not really sure how to do them well. Still, I'll look at it. Who knows, maybe in 1.0...

    Just mercs. That way they work for all factions. Seemed like the best solution .

    I agree with Murf that the scabbards look a little to large, otherwise it looks very nice.

    Fist of they look great!

    However I do not see any GC members having a painted tree headed dragon on their shield.. I would like it way better if all of them had the golden skull. I get that they are ment for Aegon and therefore have his followers shields in the knights unit!

    As murf said elephants would be epic but not nessecary. However I would like to see a longbow/archer unit.

    And of course I would like to use them as soon as I have decided the role the company will play in Essos TW. The Windblown, Second Sons and The Stormcrows would also be great additions..

    Anyways! For now take some rep for your work!

    They look good, though I wouldn't have done the gold armor, maybe only on the captains or certain units? If you do their elephants they should Definitely have gold surcoats/saddleblankets/whateverthosethingsarecalleds. Just suggestions, like I said they Do look good now too.

    Thanks a whole bunch for the feedback everyone! I have shrunk down the sheaths as they were WAY too big. I also found out that adding Elephants and the other bowmen was actually quite easy. Enjoy the above preview! 1.0 will hopefully be released later tonight... It will be a free open-source resource and it will NOT be balanced and will lack unit cards (I really suck at making them).

    That was the original plan . Specifically, I am thinking of making a script where you will be given the option of hiring them and, if you accept, a full stack of them will appear in a few turns. It seems like that would make the most sense as they do fight as a company rather than as individual units being hired out at various times.

    A big suggestion of mine would be to use existing unit cards from vanilla M2TW... Inaccurate unit cards are better than none!

    Well that's assuming it really is that House. Ok, we should probably stop now because some unsuspecting fan will probably just assume "spoiler" means "image" like it normally does.     My approach to modding is function over form. This should be evident from my modding style.

    I add in cool new features, units, all that sort of thing. Whether it looks perfect and 100% iis not a huge factor in my mind.

    Sadly, most people do not realise the huge amount of work which goes into modding.

    Hat off to you sir for this little project.

    Also, did you create entire new unit entries for these units, or did you modify existing ones?

    All my probing questions here are a cost-benefit analysis of whether I can add these into my mods without vast amounts of effort... I already have a ton of stuff to do for other projects :-(

    New entries, all conveniently placed at the end of their respective files. As long as you aren't close to the 500 unit limit you should be just fine. The whole point of this is to make it easy for people to add them to their own submods .

    Probably. At the moment I farmed out the Angmar coding to an eager volunteer who has not been online since . I'll probably go back and finish that up but after that I'm not sure. The problem with modding Westeros is that I am not making full conversions, just additions and there isn't one submod to rule them all that I can add onto. I have been playing around with the idea of expanding upon Call of Warhammer, but that is still just in the theoretical stages...
