Not what I was getting at.

I think I'm gonna order this today:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cold-Steel-97G...dp/B004MMS0PE/

Should be perfect for home defense and maneuvering in small spaces.

Of course not, but it's mainly focused on endurance and psychological strenght. It's not for the weak but you don't have to be exceptionally strong. Weapon skill and endurance are probably the two most important human factors that make a good soldier, equipment is the most important non-human factor.

Also, I wasn't talking about the military alone, if you're in the resistance the physical aspects are less important.

I don't like guns. And I especially don't like them lying around in my place.

Agreed, notwithstanding the different training methods per army, although sadly I can't talk about those too much.

To say, at least, modern armies seem far less concentrated than older armies. Until at least 1871 there was still individual armies that represented the final form of. Now it is all about putting one division somewhere , while the 'army' itself is spread out on a 800 kilometer frontier. Tactically, it is 3 soldiers hiding behind a wall of sandbags, 2-3 more inside a nearby building about 20 meters away, individual soldiers spread out like landmines to ambush in the forests...etc, compared to the close-mass regiments of the old.

More like light-infantry militia soldiers with technology, than what one would expect a proper army to be.

Same about forts. Military bases are a game of hide-and-seek these days. Border forts stopped existing.

Oh, gunpowder...how have you changed the face of warfare. In this day anyone can point and shoot.

Neither do I. Most Brits freak out when they see an armed Police Officer on the tube or something. Like an "oh shite, that guy has a weapon capable of killing someone with incredible ease"

It amazes me how casually guns are treated in America, why on Earth would someone need a weapon capable of firing 200 rounds a second in their bedroom, oh wait I know - it's because everyone has ing rapid fire weaponry in the house.

That's all there is in Colombia. Going down the streets the cops and soldiers are everywhere with assault rifles.
In Canada however, you'll be lucky if a cop even takes out his gun.

Interestingly enough, only about half of all Americans own guns, which is still high, but nevertheless shows that this country is pretty divided on this issue.

I have just realized that some of the events that I've been adding into my conworld are being affected by the Crimea/my reading of Globalization and its Discontents thing, Legend of the Galactic Heroes and other things I think. For the Crimea/Globalization, I have what I think would be oligarchies being broken up and for the LOGH I have a recently crowned king who accumulates popularity by pleasing the masses by breaking up the oligarch/nobility power.

A king that rules by the ideals of Proletariat, eh?

The thing is, Monarchism needs to be a meritocracy if it is to flourish for long. A good monarch increases the strength of monarchy and trust of people in it, while even a single bad ruler after that will make people look for other alternatives (Bourbon France), or even lead their country to the end of it's existance (Late Roman Empire for example).

How many monarches are there in total in your conworld?

You can find me on YouTube by typing Romance of the Three Kingdom, find the

    username Msgampo.

Off note: Watching a show called Reign. A show about Queen Mary of Scotland....

full of crappy teen drama. My recommendation: do not watch this fictional piece of crap.
