Yes that is correct first release will not include Italy. The rest of the map will be all there. So hungary is definetly in and we have permission to use magyar mod infantry. We are making our own cavalry which some will be shared with austria.

Looking at this roster I see so much Roleplaying Possibility, Do I make heavy use of Mercenaries in my army or do I restore the old Theme System and use only natives in my army with sparse use of mercenaries, oh the Possibilities.
Looks great. Certainly looking forward to restoring the Empire to it's former glory.
I've noticed that there aren't any mid-level domestic horse missile units for the Romans, and Serbs too. Weren't there any "master of all trades" mounted fighters amongst the local troops? I think I recall images of such types, form Osprey maybe.
Romans might have some hybrid cavalry, but since they have plenty of missile cavalry mercenaries I think it was not a "must".
Not for the romans. They have to use mercenaries such as turks and cumans for horse archery. For the serbs we had planned a hussar horse archer but it eventually got deleted from roster. Again mercenaries and also alliances will be the key to getting access to this type of units.
I would've liked to see some, but not enough to get my own ass on it
Excellent work + rep!
Looking good. Looking forward to playing as these guys.
Dear God, this preview is a magnificent piece of work!!!
Gongratulations to ya all guys!!!

an absolute piece of art... congrats to all the members of the team
Looking a bit more carefully, I really like the variety of weapons in some of the units- especially the sabres/swords for the skoutatoi (sp?) and axes/two-handed swords for the upgraded Varangians. Very nice touch.
Commented before, but felt like leaving another thought, linked to this post, albeit not directly.
When playing in Total War games as empires, particularly those linked with the Classical Roman Empire or inspired by it, I really seek having an effective roster and I try to play by the book, in terms of how best to employ my units. You know, the uniformity and order in empires and all that.
When the mod gets released, will the Tsardoms team consider making some sort of guide on how army rosters for all the factions including the ERE be best composed of and used?
I'm not sure I explained myself correctly. Thanks in advance.
Preferably from a historical standpoint.
For example, in TW games with 20 unit limits, when playing as the classical RE some people suggested having around 9 legionary cohorts and 1 eagle cohort, with the other 10 slots taken up by auxiliary infantry and cav, artillery and the legate's bodyguard.
Would be great to have a similar guide on what would a typical Roman field army in the 14th and 15th century field, and how it would use the units it fielded. I mean, I know that the lower quality militias weren't meant for that, so I'm mostly referring to the professional units, such as the Kontaratoi.
Very good!!! I want to play with one of the two Roman Empires!
We might do something like that but its not really priority you know...
But basicly last emperor disbanded most of army since he coukdnt pay for it. Kankakuzenos is candidste supported by provincial nobility and.opposed by Konstantionopol birocracy.
At this time Tagmatic army is crippled, but we made all units so player will be able to rebuild it.
Core of army is formed by pronoia and mercenaries and supplemented by militia/levies. There is generaly great reliance on mercenaries due to unreliability of locals who are all involved in political conflicts within Empire.
There are 3 large groups of mercenaries. Latins, Turks and Slavs. Latins and Turks are used against Slavs, Turks and Slavs against Latins and Slavs and Latins against Turks. Thus maximum efficiency of mercenaries is achieved
We really should look to make mercs less efficienst against their own kin. Im not sure if its possible
That is some awesome work on Unit textures. Also the amount of units for one faction is actually overwhelming...
