RTR axed the axemen?

So are there totally no axe wielding warriors in the entire RTR mod? At least I haven't seen any.

Were there totally no axemen in ancient days? Or did they all just stick to woodcutting and stuff, and leave the war bussiness to their spear and sword carrying brothers?

The Cilican Pirates are the only ones that use proper axes! You cand find them around the shores of Pontus and the surround area.

NB: The thracian infantry, use axe-like weapons, but not true axes.

I thought the barbarians would've used more but perhaps that's not historically accurate... lol

Axes aren't really very good weapons, in reality.

They are obviously very lethal, and deliver a far harder and stronger blow than a sword.

However, there's a drawback.

In reality, axes tend to get stuck easily - in your opponent's shield, or in his dead body, and you have to waste time frantically trying to pull it free. And while you're busy doing that, another enemy is usually trying to poke his sword in your ribs.

Also, if your axe is two-handed, you can't use and shield. Swords are much more useful in battle.

Just because a weapon is 2H does not mean a sword and board is superior. In fact just look at the ancient Japanese warriors. The spear was a weapon that when wielded properly, as they did, was more than capable of defeating a weapon of less range.
2H weapons such as the spear offer a ton of advantages with very few disadvantages. Yes if they get close you're in trouble...but for them getting close is a huge problem to overcome.
