Thread: [SubMod] Regular Names for Units

Default [SubMod] Regular Names for Units

Not a complex submod I've renamed most of the unit names back to English including units in the Hellenic Unit Pack, some keep their new titles simple because they sound better like Iranian Spearmen instead of Eastern Spearmen also units like Thorax Swords and Dacian Spears are now Thorax Swordsmen And Dacian Spearmen just sounds better. Also removed most of the parenthesis from the description text for most units except for units like the Spartan Commando unit because I didn't want to translate it to Spartan Commando just doesn't sound right. If I missed anything tell me I'll try to fix it.

UPDATE new version for DeI 0.7 delete old, copy new let me know of any issues

Awesome! I was hoping someone would make a submod for this. Thank you!

Great, I may very well use this as these names can be rather confusing at first.

My only issue with DEI was the realistic names that seemed kinda gimmicky and made it harder to differentiate between enemy units. Thanks a lot for this.

Yeah at first i thought it was cool, but after a while becomes confusing, so i ended up reading the descriptions only so i know what unit is it.

You just need some time too learn the names with the units.

While I understand the point of the mod...why remove the more historical names when you could just add the English name in parenthesis i.e. what EB does for RTW1. I would rather see GARGOKLADIOI (FIERCE SWORDS) over the plain English only...best of both worlds.

Yeah, I thought it was cool to learn the actual names of the units but some of the units have very similar names and since I'm so unfamiliar with these languages they become hard to differentiate in the middle of a battle to me. I guess when it comes right down to it I'm a lazy individual, so this mod is right up my alley.

Some of the names I kept if I thought they sounded better and kept the translation in the description in parenthesis

Indeed, that would be a great compromise.
Aeimnestus was a Spartan, famous because he killed the Persian General Mardonius at the battle of Plataea.

Great suggestion, the best of both worlds!

Rather than a few people using this submod I suspect you'd get nearly everybody using it if you followed this sensible suggestion.

One idea I had would be to put the actual realistic names in the parenthesis in the unit description box so you use the English names but you can also learn the real names of the units if you want to. Essentially just swapping what DEI does where they use the realistic names for the units and the English name is in parenthesis on the unit description.

From what I hear DeI 0.7 is coming out very soon I'm waiting for it to arrive to make a new version of Regular Names. After hearing feedback I intend to have certain units (mainly elite units) to keep their translated names and have the English translation in the description text. I'll try to put out a list of units that keep their translations.
