Default Need help making RTW movies...

I have quite a few replays. But the thing is I want to be able to watch them outside of the game.
I found the folder where there stored but when I attempt to open them with windows media player it says unknown file extension.

So is there a way to watch them outside the game?

I'm interested in making a few movies possibly. I see you-tube has quite a few in-game battle videos from people. They must use some program to change the format of the file.

The replays saved in the folder are "RPY Files". Windows media player says there supported, but the codec isnt readable or something.

    Thank you.
It says you need to have v1.2 to use it.
Is it compatible with v1.5? I have v1.5

    Yeah, anything after 1.2 works

Well you don't have to just have 1.2..even though they advise you use that version.. The majortiy of the movie cam stuff works with all the patches.

The only thing you can't do post 1.2 is save your replays using tga's. From experience you are FAR better using fraps than the in game tga's. TGA's are such a hassle. They are slow to convert and using virtualdub to convert to movie files is a big pain. Don't forget TGA's take up a hell of alot of memory...way more than frap files ever would.

But fraps doesn't allow for completey smooth video footage, and you can't make any really smooth movememnts with the camera using fraps. And unless you buy fraps, it has that really annoying logo on top.

I keep getting this message when I try to put the "-movie_cam" command at the end of the shortcut target line.

It says- The name 'C:\Program Files\Activision/Rome - Total War/RomeTW.exe -movie_cam' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.

You can make smooth footage, but you need to set fraps to a high level of fps. Atleast 60 or above.

Bearing in mind the best fps you get with tga's is 30, fraps in a sense is miles better.

Fraps also saves you the bother of capturing tga's, which can take anything up to 30 mins to 2 hours(pending on file size) and converting tga into movie via virtualdub. Virtualdub pretty much is doing what Fraps is doing.

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -movie_cam

    paste that in.

you need to leave a space after the .exe

Thank you simmy. I got it working. It feels a bit odd useing the numpad. I just messed around with it and got a feel for the camera angles. I'm still reading the guide for it.

    Its pretty simple.
