Dear All !
This is time to share some elements with you.
Be aware that what is below is only a very small proportion of what we did regarding units and general changes.
I started it as a Seleucid Preview then goes on to some of my favourite units.
Kaziel's romans are here too as Octavian21 allowed us to improve again this faction even more. (thanks so much to him !)
Also, a little teasing of some of the things that will be in the next update :
- Added more than 150 units for Hellenic factions, ranging fro Auxlia to completely new ones to mercenaries
- Revisited all Hellenic Rosters to be the most historically accurate as possible
- Added 26 completely new units all historically accurate and real (no fantasy units) with completely new textures and icons
- Reworked almost all textures of Hellenic faction units to be the most accurate possible
- Reworked all factions formations/behavior to be historically accurate to the most
- Removed Fulcum from pre-Marian units, because it is only from the time of the Cohorts that Roman Legionarii changed approach to combat and utilized something similar to a Shield Wall
- Made Roman units pre-Marian more focused on attack, mobility and Pila use, as this was their primary tactic at the time, before having to change strategy fighting Iberians
- Celtic, Galatian and Iberian noble units are now fighting disciplined and in formation, using Shield Wall
- Greek swords troops have no more SW because it seems that they mostly fought in the way pre-Marian Roman troops fought
- Reworked all the weapons/equipment to be much more realistic in behavior
- Made a difference between close quarter weapons and long range ones: cc weapons are more deadly but "strike after" than long range ones
- Balanced weapons for troops that utilize the Formation Attack behavior and so fight in formation
- All units that use formations to fight (but Hoplites and Pikemen) are now resistant to fatigue to simulate that fighting in formation is less exhausting (this will even more evidentiate the difference from units that fight in formation and those outside)
- Revisited many of the armors/shield of units to represent better the diversification inside the same factions (tied to changes in behaviors)
(NOTE: Please DON'T remove "Formation Attack" from units possessing it because with these changes units are properly balanced for the way they should innately behave)
- Reworked general units rosters to be more historically accurate
- Praetorians will be now only General units (the best would be to have them as Bodyguards but that's impossible to do)
- Tweaked many Hoplite stats that were a bit "off" in many cases
- Removed Onagers from the game
- Greeks can now build artillery immediately without having to research the technology
- Removed Gladiators
- Revisited many units "upgrades" to be more historically accurate
- Redistributed playable factions to be more unique, revisited army starting rosters and balanced army sizes
- All the factions that you will see in next update as playable will have unique rosters developed in DeI in the future
- All the playable factions will have accurate starting rosters updated with the historical sizes of DeI
- The standard of DeI will become the increased army sizes (as originally planned)
- Various tweaking and balancing
- Improved on the power of the charge of cavalry but decreased even more effectiveness in melee; this should also help against routing units and will make cavalry stronger on flank/rear attacks
- Made Fulcum less powerful for defense but stronger in attack in comparison to a normal Shield Wall, to evidentiate the fact that the approach of Romans on the use of it was different
- Reworked artillery to be more historically accurate (maybe: don't know if I can do this in time; if I cannot I will produce an update to include this after)
So enough talking, some screenshots of the new units now ==>
