Something different this time, I believe many of the people who are interested in the military history of the East Roman Empire are familiar with this illustration from the Skylitzes manuscript:

The illustration depicts the funeral of an emperor (IMS) you can tell by their long axes that the soldiers in the background are Varangian Guardsmen.
Notice the raindrop shaped shield at the lower right part of the image (green circle and arrow).
It's been the theme of a mini project of mine to keep me from getting bored of the round shields.
This shield will feature among those that my render of VG will carry.

Here are a first couple of milkshape screenies:

Apart from the shields, everything is a WiP, the face is vanilla ERE and the helmet is from Ferrum's models.

Some rework of the metal parts of the round shields.
They are six now (and still WiPs) and I intend to make two more to "complete the set".

This is the finalized versions of my round shield metal frameworks, in the 256x256 scale (I have no idea if I will ever make bigger ones).
So what we have is eight of them for a reasonable variety in my attachments texture maps of 16 shields each (for the round shield units).

A preview of the normal maps as they show in Crazy Bump.
I have no idea if they will look that good in-game.

Thank you, my friend and to match the shields, here are a couple of 2-handed axes (historically correct) of types that I don't believe have been modelled before for M2TW.

Are you sure the one on the right is historically accurate? Where you found info about it? Because it looks to fancy, like from fantasy game or film I think such blade would be also inpractical and liable to damage. But I may be wrong of course

Well, it's a fair remark, but I would not have proposed this if I wasn't sure about it's authenticity.
It turns out there have been more than one specimen of this style.

This is the specimen from Ludvigshare:

    And this is another specimen:

And there is also this even less preserved specmen which (I think) is exibited in the Silkeborg Museum in Mid Jutland:

I am taking this opportunity to show the increment in my collection of two-handed axes.
