Thread: Soldiers dialogue

  1. #1

    Default Soldiers dialogue

Everytime I zoom in on a unit, I am baffled by the "repertoire" of the soldiers: always cracking me up with a crude remark or a side chat.

Is there a way to find ALL the possible audio/text of the soldiers in a .pack or something ? I would like to peruse them.

What I find funny is when the dialogue is too stupid for me to comprehend.

I was being sieged by just horse lancers in Caucasia, all they did was sit outside my gate, get pelted by arrows and rocks and one man had the nerve to scream:

"Look at their stupidity! They'll never get us!"

This was around the time when they were all on wavering.

Am i the only one who noticed that most of the dialogue and orders seems to be out of a Sharpe novel?

Yeah, rome 2 has some pretty epic quotes Some of my personal favorites are:

Guy 1: "Don't lose your head!" Guy 2: "Same to you!"

Guy 1: *gets hit by arrow* "AAARRRGGG" Guy 2: "Of course it hurts, you idiot!"

"They all have very tiny manhoods!"

"It's the general! ... I expected someone taller..."

Am i the only one who finds all the talking and comments to be especially annoying? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the roman's advanced in silence and good order. That was part of their intimidation factor. I find it really immersion breaking when my roman soldiers make some stupid modern day joke, in a British accent, while advancing on the enemy.

"Who gave that man permission to die?"

"Deckmaster, beat that man. No spittin' on my ship."

Officer 1: "Get that man's name, his armor is a disgrace."
Officer 2: "You! What's your bloody name and number?"

Soldier 1: "I've seen more threatening whores than the enemy."
Soldier 2: "Makes sense, you have a poor taste in whores."

Cant remember it to well but it was something like this:
"I have not yet see our general" <- this guy was in a unit, which was right in front of the generals unit. then poor sod just had to turn his head to see him.

that really cracked me up :3

In a Roman army that I used to conquere Egypt I had some Celtic merceneries, whilest zooming in on them in battle I overheared this:

Soldier 1: "Sometimes I miss home. Sometimes I dont."

    Soldier 2: "Fascinating!!!"

One of my personal favorites, from a Roman general speech before fighting a greek army:

"Is there anything more pathetic than a warlike greek!?"

You`re probably right. We know Roman discipline was strict and training was harsh. If any Roman soldier spoke it was probably in a quick whisper as he advanced, and he was one of few. Except of course, for those barking orders.
I find the constant jumping also annoying -it`s all over done and takes away from the feel of reality.

It works ok for barbarians, but not for Romans.

Most of the dialogue I heard is just stupid to me. This is something that could have added to the immersion, but it doesn't because most of the things I hear are dumb.

I never have time to go down and look/listen due to broken battle mechanics, but when I do it all sounds really repetitive. I wish some of the other lines would play for me instead of my guys saying "Look! The enemy is coming this direction!" followed by "Yeah... enemies tend to do that" 4 times in a row.

Brilliant post, 40% of the characters in it were a signature with marketing from 2 companies hawking something completely unrelated to the content of the post

    Few points of mine;

    - Some, SOME of the clips are mildly amusing the first time you here them.
    - Oh god the repetition!
    - Becomes just another element of CA's attempt to make the game more like something out of a 300 movie remake rather than a plausible historic wargame which was what made Rome I, and a lot of other TW games, good.
    - If I hear that exact same general speech again, I'll tear his head off. I'm not joking you here. The laws of physics shall not hold me!

Yes, thats the purpose. But peoples would have understood it just by watching the marketing pieces...all sounded yet 300 and Hbo inspired.
Thats the main reason why I didn't bought the game before having a try onto, I was just shocked and afflicted by the marketing
My skepticism about marketing saved me!

Audio with a skirmisher unit that just thrown their last javelins:

Officer 1 : Punish that man!
Officer 2 : For what reason?
Officer 1 : For running out of ammunition!
Soldier 1 : He is not the only one... sir.
