Unsurp the position of your liege lord Elrond through assassinating Elladan and Elrohir and marry Arwen, then make up a plot to kill Elrond and bribe his spymaster Glorofindel into supporting you and thus your son inherit the position of Lord of Rivendell then you kill him too though a plot with his spymaster Bilbo, inheriting the lordship. Then wage war on the Dundedain with fabricated claims on Eriador counties to reform the Kingdom of Beleriand and position yourself as High-King of the Noldor.

Damn, I don't know if CK2 is the best game for a LoTR mod .

All I can imagine is having random heroes from Middle-Earth castrated and locked in a dungeon for the rest of their lives. Meanwhile Sauron forms ten thousand different plots to conquer Middle-Earth instead of you know, just using that massive army he has.

Could be good. It's certainly no MERP, but I think it has potential, even though the ck2 engine isn't my first choice for a LOTR game.
Under the patronage of Finlander. Once patron to someone, no longer.
    Content's well good, innit.

Diary #1 - Welcome to Middle Earth !
    "Forth Eorlingas!"

Hello everybody, I'm Lonhaldar, one of the member of the MEP Team! I'm really glad to introduce you to our mod, and for this first diary, I propose to travel with you inside the plains of Rohan.
Before I talk about this kingdom, I want to say one or two things about the gameplay. For the War of the Rings scenario, the start date is 11362, this is because we count the dates of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ages, and a part of the Years of Trees before that. Why? Because it's a better way to make and represent some characters and dynastic trees (like the loooong family tree of Aragorn, or the characters like Galadriel/Elrond/...). A few words about the map: during the War of the Rings, there are two opposing large factions, but it's a little more complicated. At the center of the map, Rohan fights against Isengard and Dunlendings to the North West and Mordor to the East. Gondor is his powerful ally in the south, but itself in war with Mordor/Harad/Rhûn/...
But for now, maybe the best thing is to show you directly a map of Rohan.

For this map, we use the "de jure kingdoms" filter. So, a big kingdom, with 26 counties, 6 "districts" (duchy level). The titles of Marshals of Rohan aren't landed titles, but minor ones, then you could make your owns "1st Marshal of the Mark" as in the books.
I can show you what are the construction of the de jure kingdom of Rohan maybe? Hmmm... Yes, I think I could.

The kings of Rohan are the heirs of Eorl the Young who received the territory of Calenardhon from Cirion, steward of Gondor, around 500 years before the start of our bookmark. For the game, we implement the entire dynastic line of Eorl, from... Eorl to Theodred, son of Theoden.

In the War of the Rings scenario, you'll begin with Theoden obviously. Let's have a look to this character, and to a specific trait he has:

Yeah, that's Herugrim, his own sword! We implement some traits like that for specific characters/stuff, who'll increase/decrease some skills of the characters who hold them, and who could be the source of some events/decisions too.
Some important characters are here too, like Eomer and Eowyn. They're from the Eorl dynasty, because they're the sons of the sister of Theoden. So, if Theodred dies, Eomer should be the heir, and the line isn't broken.:

Nukumnehtar made a great job in the cultures file, so we've got a really great Rohanese culture, and some surprises to come, be sure of that! The Rohirrim got their own skins too, because we can't have the same helmets/crowns for Rohan and for Gondor or Hobbits!

Some events will adds some flavour to playing the game as a Rohir. But it'll be another diary I guess, I don't want to show you all our works for now!

Looks decent-ish, but Middle Earth isn't a great scenario for a CK2 based game. It is mostly far to one dimensional- good vs evil which doesn't play into CK2's hands with all the dynastic intrigue.

Potential to be ridiculous and/or hilarious.
If only for the fact that, if well done, it would cause cerebral explosions in some of our own loremasters!

    Keep the updates coming!

Diary #2 "Long Hairs, Long Ears, Long Life"

Hello everybody, second diary for us, and a short one for today!
I'll introduce you the most famous race of Middle-earth... Well, one of the most famous... And i'm sur that with the title of this diary, you find out which one
Elves are installed in some important places of Middle-Earth : Mirkwood, Lorien, Grey Havens and Rivendell. For today, i'll show you the elves of Rivendell, the Noldor.
As you certainly know, Rivendell is at the East of Eriador, near to the Misty Mountains. A lot of enemies are here, ready to fight with the last fortress of the peoples of Finwë.

such a small province in such a big world!

The place is protected by many glorious characters, like Glorfindel, a First Age hero. But the leader of this city is Elrond, the Half-Elf. Let me show you what he looks like:

You can see that he holds many prestigious trait : Member of the White Council - Vilya, one of the Three Elvish Rings and Narsil. Why Narsil? Because the sword is under his protection, in Rivendell... The heir of Isildur will have Anduril, if Elrond accept to reforge it.
Well, the elves are immortals, of course, so they've got a inheritance trait that give to them immortality... And very very very very very very very very very very low fertility level. Because in 5000 years, they've got times to make hundreds of children! They could have only some children, by decision/events, with a limit.

So, I showed you Elrond, but how do the other Elves look? I've posted some Elvish Portraits below just for you:

As I told you, small diary this week, we're working hard and we didn't have a lot of time for this one. Next diary next week!

The characters are placeholders at the moment. These are mostly to show the new traits.

Well, there are bound to be some places you can ask for technical help. Failing that, ask one of the Tech Staff or a Moderator.

I don't know, considering the amount of focus Tolkien put on lineage in his universe and various events such as the sundering of Arnor and the Kin Strife I always thought CK2 was the best Paradox game one could make a Tolkien mod out of. I just don't think the timeline they've decided to focus on is the best. During the War of the Ring all the aspects which would make CK2 a good fit are almost nonexistent.
