Thread: Hunnic archers.

    Default Hunnic archers.

I was reading the book "The Fall of the Roman Empire" by Peter Heather.

I read that compound bows were used since the time of the Scythians and that the reason why the Hunnic bow was different was that it was an assymetrical coumpound bow. The upper piece was longer and the lower piece shorter so that it didnt have trouble with the horse. In that way the Hunnic bow was of 110 or 130 cm, instead of the 80 cm bow of the Scythian and Sarmatian tribes.

I say this because of the killing effect of arrows that some people are considering excesive and also because maybe we could have a more accurate skin of the bow in a future version.

Well at distances shorter than 100 m the compound bow of the Huns can pierce with no problem the armor of an Alan.
I also have read in a book of Atila by John Man they talk how coumpound bows have more penetrating power than bullets at a distance shorter than 100m.
