Default So this is Civil War?

Okay so I was having like ALOT of fun playing as Rome and having great diplomatic relations with everybody and conquering who I pleased. I have like 8 or 9 allies. So countries that I start wars with get dogpiled on by everybody. And I"m talking like all the major factions who arnt eastern (exception of Selucid but their easterness is debatable) and barbarians. I love it! I'm literally playing as america. Invade who I please, act as police for the entire world. But then....I clicked end turn. And this cool civil war scene came on with the lions. It was so smexy. I wa slike excited for my first civil war. Until.....I saw I had LOST rome automatically and had like 8 stacks of Senate loyalists surrounding my city!
I was so fricken pissed, I had been watching my political party and I was the highest one. I was at like 36% or something everyone was really under me. So I didnt know what happened, I hadnt just conquered a province, like shogun 2's realm divide. I did just lose a MAJOR battle against the helvetti in the north though. I dont know I'm pissed cuz I'm involved in a major war in the area below the nile right now and all my armies are away from Italy. Just seems like its gonna be so annoying, having to possibly take back italy depending on the aggressiveness of these stacks. Seems coolish now when I say it I guess. I'm just a little confused and conflicted. I wish the civil war would have happen like in an edicted region (not italy) and maybe they would have 2 or 3 stacks. That seems fair. But this. This just seems like I wont have any time to expand for a long long time. Well those are my vented feelings on this. Idk if I will continue with this campaign now, but I might .

They're not so bad, unfortunately you're involved in a war and they hit you in Rome. When I played Rome, they hit me in Iberia and I was at peace which helped. But their units should be inferior to you.

Its no fun defending against a force spawned from inside your territory. Realm divine in S2 wasnt fun for many people, but I loved it gigantic-clash feeling. Same for mongol invasion. Civil war is just a waste of time :\

They spread out, and are easy pickings. If they stayed close to one another and actually built up from that position they could be a threat. But you will find, depending on how far your main forces are from the capital, that by the time you get to battle them, they are spread out. When it first happened in my Iceni campaign they took half of the British isles by the time i could get back, and i was able to destroy half their forces with just my garrison forces. but i could see that having multiple wars on various fronts could cause issues.

This actually makes sense you know.. Senate Loyalists spawning in Rome/Italy as that would probably be where the main power base and support of the senate would be.

Embrace it. The game just threw you into a very very rare situation: things didn't go exactly as you wanted. Now you have to react and face a challenge. Move your stacks to defeat the senate and risk facing setbacks on the frontier. It makes you feel like a real life Roman general/ruler, yes?

The civil war design is bad enough and I don't think any amount of 'fix' done in future can change that since it's related to the core game. Civil war and pilitics are the only area that gets the thumb down from me from this game.

What I can only hope is that the expansion can do something better.

maybe CA could allow mods to remove it entirely for players who hate it? ca can release it in mod form with no official support like they did before.

    I think it's hardcoded unfortunately.

Rare? It's happened in every one of my four campaigns. Always the same boring old trigger point, despite what the oh so sophisticated political system may indicate.

While it DOES have issues (hint hint see picture above), when it works right it shakes up the campaign and adds some much needed difficulty. Eight stacks sounds about right, I'd love it if it started in Rome... much more dramatic. Would make for a good story.

I'm going to take it most of the players here haven't tried RSII...?

I just cannot handle is EXTREME situation, so i quitted this campaign and started a Carthage campaign. Then corrupted save files ruined the fun. I started a brand new campaign since patch 5, the Roman campaign, with the civil war erupted with 12 stacks or there abouts. More manageable since I have about 8 stacks myself. But that Macedonian rebels, my friend, are not kidding around. I guess the ancient world will be taken by Macedonians again.

Everything you said here seems completely normal. If 8 stacks showed up I can guess that you're either playing on Hard or Very Hard. 9-12 Stacks is legendary. 2-4 quarter stacks is easy. When I had civil war as Rome and they didn't start with Rome I had 70% influence. When I was playing Pontus and they did take Amasia I had 40ish%. I think you need more than 50% for majority.
You should welcome this civil war. With all your allies you should crush them easily. When I had civil war on my Rome campaign it was on Legendary difficulty and I was already at war with EVERYONE. I lost half of Italy before finally kicking them back (They came from central Gaul). It was actually my navies that won the civil war for me. Navies are awesome if you use them well.

Also, the civil war stacks that show up will always be replicas of your own armies (give or take a bit). If you have mostly praetorians so will they. If you have mostly slingers, then so will they.

The great thing about civil war though with Rome and Carthage is that once it's over you can become an EMPIRE and get 25% corruption bonus and 10% unit upkeep bonus. (that is costing you less). And you don't ever have to worry about politics again.
